Anybody who watched even 10 minutes of the show, would know it. Of course, the SMJ team used sound effects etc to make the show emotionally impactful. It was the right thing to do, IMO. The Indian people, or to be fair, the people in general, all over the world, are moved by emotions more than anything else. In this case their emotions were channelized to the right direction. So what's the harm? And I wouldn't call it manipulation either, because the issues that were brought up in the show were genuine, like the concerns that were expressed.Resul Pookutty's comments were uncalled for, I feel. He doesn't need to pull SMJ down to promote his own show. In fact, his show and SMJ should essentially be on the same side in fighting the issues.

Why put down another show just to publicize yours when their goal is the same?

What's wrong with sound editing? It's used in movies to create a greater impact so why not use it for a reality show especially one which aimed to create social understanding and positive development. It should not matter what was in it for Amir Khan; be it financial gain, increased popularity or just to feel better about himself. Fact is, no matter what he gained from it, in the end something positive came out of it, he was the to take that step towards the right direction. Entertainment industry if used properly is a great medium to bring about positive change. Amir used that to bring many people together, strength in numbers.

I can see how this was taken out of context and made to look like Resul was criticizing SMJ. I feel bad for the guy. Hope Aamir talks to him soon or at least replies to his email :-)

All these are insignificant nothings, if the main issue made a deep impact even in one viewer's mind, then its a battle well fought!

as if anyone needs to be told about the sound effects.
Did they think people didn't know where the sound effects and background music comes from? 😆

mehh I agree with Anamika... don't get why absolutely everything about this show is scrutinized. They NEVER claimed to make this a charity/non-profit show. Amir Khan's name is being used, they could've easily hired someone who has had an entire career in humanities host this show... why in the world would Amir Khan not ask for his payment?

I never said Aamir Khan's show was manipulated: Resul Pookutty

Resul Pookutty is a very unhappy man - that is, since the last couple of days - ever since he was quoted as having said that Aamir Khan'sSatyamev Jayate was doctored in the post-production studios to give it an emotional overhaul. "I don't ever want to wake up like that again," says Resul, "I was mixingEnglish Vinglish all night, and returned home around 7am. I had just fallen asleep when the phone rang. After that, I haven't slept," he says.

But isn't this the usual grouse? Of being misquoted? "I am not saying I didn't say those things. I did, but that was by way of explaining how the craft is done. I took many shows' names - I also spoke about Ekta's shows on TV, and reality shows. I usually do talk about sounds and mixing in movies and shows - for that is my job, and I follow what happens in the industry. What I was trying to do was explain the difference between a live show, or a debate show and a show like Satyamev Jayate. I was talking about designing sound mainly for films and narratives. We design sound, so that the audience's emotions are manipulated. We want the audience to laugh at some point, to cry at some point. For example, take a background score based on ragas that has an element of pathos to it. Now, if we put that into a sad scene, it enhances the sadness of the scene." He goes on, "My only issue is that it was made to look like I attacked Aamir for what he has done.

But I did not say anything the way it was made to appear - as if it was in critique of one particular show. I never said Aamir's show was manipulated, I talked about it in a different context. Later, I tried to call Aamir, but when he didn't pick up, I sent an email to him, explaining it all. And still, I kept thinking: what is the way to reach him? Then I called Raju Hirani, and told him everything. He told me not to worry, that Aamir is cool about it, and that he will talk to him. But I will also personally talk to Aamir and clear it when I can," says Resul, who has his hands full these days.

Gauri Shinde's film apart, he also has Chittagong. "I have big plans for it. It will be a movie that will make us all proud. The maker of the movie will be back in India next week, so we will make a few announcements then," he says. Then of course, there is his pet project - his directorial debut for which the Big B has given his nod. There are Hollywood projects too - but at the moment, he is a worried man. "Let it all be, for now, I am worried," he sighs, "Till I talk to Aamir, I won't be easy. You know, I don't call anybody, never give anything out. Yes, when somebody calls me, I try to talk and be nice, and this is what happens," he says. Well, all we can say is, Aamir, please take his call.
