Battle of Wits

Chapter 2

Dance to distract

"Today we are going to be practising for our Annual Red Ball" Mrs Dimello smiled broadly at the group, ignoring the groans around the room. "Ballroom dancing is something splendid, both beautiful and sensuous."

"I want all of you to be proficient by the ball, so no dallying. The senior students already have experience and can help others." Looking around the different girls and boys, she kept on smiling, "Especially our house leaders. So to start off, let us have Geet and Maan dance"

It was needless to say Mrs Dimello was a bit oblivious, believing that getting the two of the most popular students to dance would get the others to join in but it only created a tense situation.

There was an audible gasp across the room, as everyone felt the stupidity of her gesture as well as the potential for disaster.

Trying to keep things calm, Vicky cut in, "Ma'am why don't I dance with Geet?"

"Is Geet to chicken to dance with me?" Maan droned in a challenging voice, "If she is then, by all means dance with her. After all I wouldn't want to scare the little girl."

Again there was a gasp from the crowd and a weird laugh from Mrs Dimello, "Don't be silly, why would Geet be scared?" She only made the situation worse. "Or is Geet actually scared?"

"Of course not! Why would I be scared by a witless pansy? What would I be scared of? That he'll drown me in his hair gel or that his massive ego will choke me!" Geet smirked and walked to the centre as Maan strolled there was well, "Buckle up idiot and don't mess up"

"Try to keep your mouth closed and not drool all over me" Maan winked, with a wicked grin to add to the insult." The crowd watched with bated breath as the two stood in front of one another and there was even some hyperventilation as Maan put his hand around Geet's waist.

Geet just cackled, "Drool? More like puke!"

"Oh, I love it when you talk dirty" He sniggered but then whispered into Geet's ears, so soft that no one could hear, "Let's give them a show, after all when we dance, there has to be explosions"

Maan swiftly moved her till Geet's body was tilted and only held up by his hand. Giving her a wink, he jerked her a bit, which clearly made it seem like he was about to drop her on the floor but at the last minute he straightened her.

Geet glared at him, which everyone saw but they missed her twinkling eyes. As they turned again, Geet "accidentally kicked lightly at Maan's ankle.

"Uh oh" a nervous girl said, "She…she kicked him"

"I am going to get indigestion" Adi moaned.

Maan retaliated against Geet by pulling her roughly and then twirling her around multiple times, sure to make Geet very dizzy.

Finally Mrs Dimello got an inkling that things were getting a bit too heated and nervously spoke out, "Umm..kids slow down a bit"

But the evil duo weren't even paying attention to the poor lady.

"Oh, you shouldn't have done that Khurana" Geet sneered and then she pulled closer to him, while pressing her nails into his into his wrist.

"Jungli!" Maan sneered back and then twisted her wrist, so that her arm was then behind her back and he was behind her. "That should stop you!"

"Ouch! Shaitan!" Geet half yelled while trying to squirm out of Maan's grasp. She then kicked him, forcing him to release her.

"KIDS!" Mrs Dimello was now panicking as were all the students. "Stop this immediately! You are meant to dance, not fight!"

Geet pushed Maan away, while Maan glared at her. However he also gave her a subtle wink which cause the slightest of twitches in Geet's lips. Despite fighting, they both were enjoying this way too much.

"Oh Ma'am, that was Geet's version of dancing" Maan retorted, "She was two left feet"

"And he dances like he has no feet!" Geet smirked, "You are a hopeless dancer"

"Why don't you walk the talk and prove that you are a better dancer." Maan now had an evil glint in his eyes, "If you are so confident, lets have a competition. My house against your house"

"Oh no!" Someone from Elliot house groaned. "What are they going to bet on now!"

"Challenge accepted" Geet put her hand forward and they shook hands, "We'll work out the details later"

Immediately the student's looked at those in competing houses, knowing that there would be a battle soon. As much as they were horrified (but mostly entertained) by the duo's fights, they all took part in the competitions with gusto and energy.

Mrs Dimello made another attempt to control the situation, "Kids lets focus on the dance!"

Someone snorted, "Yeah, let us dance after that showdown"

While St Vincent held intra-school competition, there was a hidden competition between the houses that was co-ordinated by the house leaders. It was a part of the school's heritage that was kept under wraps by the students.

There was a board on the house leader's room where the points were meticulously maintained. The winners of the competition got along with bragging rights, additional access to the schools utilities, such as the swimming pool and the gym. The other three houses also had to arrange the end of the year party according to the winner's orders.

But the cheery on the icing was that the winner would give all the houses or their leaders a dare.

This created intense rivalry between the houses and also many competitions. There were frequent competitions between them, as organised by the leaders, such as the dance one that the duo had just announced.

At the moment the scoreboard looked like this:

Fraser (Geet): 120

Elliot (Maan): 115

Carlton (Adi): 115

McKinnon (Vicky): 110

"Now we have to organise the dance competition" Vicky grumbled, as the four leaders sat around in their common room. "I hate you guys"

"Stop whining" Maan just laughed, "My house will kick everyone's ass"

"Dream on Khurana" Geet cackled, "My house will whip it up!"

"Whatever" Adi mumbled, "I need to change schools. Go somewhere less stressful, away from you guys"

It was the usual routine for Geet; coming home,getting told of from her mother about another misdemeanour and then going to her room to get changed.

As she just finished, she heard her mother yell to her to get down stairs. "Geetu come down! See who is here to see you!"

Racing down, Geet smiled widely as she saw who it was. "Rahul Bhaia!" She went to him and gave him a big hug.

Rahul aka Rahul Singh Khurana, was Maan's older brother and as such treated Geet like a younger sister. They were very close and fond of each other. However for the last couple of years Rahul had been overseas studying, so they hadn't met for a while. "How are you, most beautiful girl in the world?"

"I am good, hottest dude!" Geet laughed. "But when did you come back!"

Someone behind Rahul started making gagging sounds, "I think I am going to vomit! Her, the most beautiful girl? More like the ugliest witch!"

Rahul swatted his hand to hit Maan on the head, "Oi! Don't talk to my favourite girl like that. Honestly, I would have thought that two of you would have gotten over your argument by now."

"Obviously you forgot how stubborn these two devils are" Naintara, Geet's older sister laughed out and then leaned forward to hug Maan, "The world could freeze but they won't give up."

"Hey Naina" Rahul had a tiny smirk on his face as he went to hug Naina, "It's been a while"

"Sure has" Naina replied with the lightest of blushes on her cheeks.

Geet raised an eyebrow at Maan, wanting to know what was happening with their siblings, but Maan shrugged to show that he was clueless as well.

However their musings were interrupted by Rano, who rushed in. "Come on kids, lets have lunch. After all, Rahul has come back home after so long!"

"Aunty, I am dying to eat your food" Rahul fondly spoke.

"Well, come along then" Rano laughed but then stopped as she turned towards Maan and Geet, "And you two, no fighting! I don't want any food fights like last time" Then looking pointedly towards Geet, "I also know that this naughty one starts all these fights"

Geet opened her mouth to protest, but Maan quickly went over to Rano and put an arm around her, "My favourite Aunty, don't worry. I'll make sure she is under control"

Rano smiled fondly at Maan but muttered, "That's what I am scared of!"
