For a person who has fought for every single thing he has today not just money or status but even a family and love, ask him why he is so guarded? He will never be able to answer. An unparalleled need to protect will be an inherent trait of such a man, along with pride, harsh words and aloofness.
The person will never spend a smile more than required for each had come at a cost to huge.
He will guard himself and his heart, building the strongest walls for the fear of betrayal and protect the ones he loves with his life. For each had been won after a long standing battle with people and fate.
One such man was Arnav Singh Raizada.
When a certain angel or devil as he thought of her then, fell into his arms and his life, her innocence took his breath away. She broke through all of his defenses with a smile and fiery determination. She was one of a kind. A singular person had managed to evoke feelings he had long buried if not strangled with his bare hands. Feelings he had never realized he had till then. The zest with which she had lived her life was noteworthy, reflecting on how simple and fairy tale - like her life had been. Each person who though so was wrong; she had struggled similarly if not more to become who she was today ' Khushi Kumari Gupta.
He fell in love with her against his wishes; he loved and loved without bounds. In his love he withheld nothing, laying himself and his heart bare ' he hoped. Hope, a feeling he had never succumbed to, like love but she had changed him.
Today, his heart, his love, his trust, his life and his Khushi were at stake. A place he had never imagined because he had fought but overpowered, he stood helpless for the first time in battle.

Sudden warmth encased her and a strange feeling bubbled in her chest. She felt content, the fear replaced; was she happy? She was happy!
She explored her surroundings uninhibited, the fear of the darkness forgotten. With the comfort came insecurity, what if this will be taken away from her like the bright lights?
A feeling that had been held at bay resurfaced and the need to escape became paramount. She found herself being drawn to an unknown destination.
She found no entrance, no exit but she had to get out of here, it was important. Though her surroundings had become friendly, habitable a force pulled her, disturbing her, willing her to find a way.
The force turned to urgency and sudden fear bubbled inside her. She rushed from one end to another trying to escape. She anticipated her surroundings transform before she felt it.
The warmth steadily increased, warmth replaced by heat, and heat by fire.
She saw flames leap at the edges of her vision.
No! She had to get out. NOW.
She rushed to the other end, turning to see flames engulf the place where she had stood earlier.
She ran for an infinite period of time but reached no boundaries, doors or windows. The flames following.
Her heart beat irregularly as she saw flames erupt behind her and moving towards her.
She rushed to her left to notice flames block her exit and swirled to the right to realize a ring of flames encircle her.
No, she had to go on. She couldn't die like this. She had to find a way out, her mind urged. A strange force urging her to fight, imparting strength.
She felt the flames lick her feet, slowly encasing her, in a vortex.
"No! Arnavji" a plea escaped her before the scene shifted, world around her dark again. The only thought before the world shifted had been, he would protect her.

I think you can do much better than me
After all the lies that I made you believe
And guilt kicks in and I start to see
The edge of the bed where your nightgown used to be
It had been nearly 24 hours but there had been no change. He knew something was terribly wrong, the doctor's eyes had said it. He had not failed to notice the tears in Akash's eyes as he returned after seeing the doctor off.
But he stood besides her.
He couldn't lose hope. Not now.
"Like Nani had said, I have to be strong. For Khushi." he pacified his adamant heart.
"She is fine."

Anjali watched from afar. He loved way too much, she knew. The reason he had never bestowed his heart to anyone. But, he loved Khushi, irrevocably. Nothing could change that. Not time, not her, not god.
"Nani, what if she doesnt come by? Doctor Uncle is losing hope. I could see that. Akash knows it. Nani, Chotte will die. I can't let him go back there."
"Anjali, nothing is going to happen. Devi maiyya has always stood by us." the elderly lady consoled her.
"Payal, please you can't lose hope. Khushi needs you." a broken Akash pleaded with his wife.
He had worked tirelessly in the last 24 hours from calling the doctor every three hours to holding his family together.
"She is my sister. My baby sister. She cannot leave me. Get her to wake up. Please Akash. She is like my child, I grew up with her, please do something!" his wife pleaded to him with folded hands while he held her, helpless.
The Prakash brothers in the last few months had seen each member of the house transform. Seen the man of the house, stumble and fall in love with the kindest hearted woman they had known.
The girl who spread happiness in the house, which had always been sullen. Who had respected each person equally, and loved without inhibition.
They stood silent in the kitchen, making Jalebis for her. Praying to their god in their own way to spare just this angel without whom the house would die. The house would shift to darkness again.
The bed I'm lying in is getting colder
Wish I never would've said it's over
And I can't pretend
I won't think about you when I'm older
'Cause we never really had our closure
This can't be the end
"Khushi, open your eyes. Enough of this nonsense. Just because I have been silent you cannot do this."
"Please Khushi"
"Khushi"
"KHUSHIII"
"Khushi please!!!" tears fell from his eyes. Each time he had changed the wet cloth on her forehead he had kissed her forehead. No change in her temperature.
He held her close to his heart, rocking them gently as tears trailed down his face.

I really miss your hair in my face
And the way your innocence tastes
And I think you should know this
You deserve much better than me
He had been staring at her face for an eternity. Hoping to memorize each detail. Just in case. A case his heart had refused to accept. A case that had grown stronger with each passing hour since evening a possibility his brain had highlighted. Dropping him into the deepest pits of despair.
He saw her eyes flutter open. After 70 days he saw a pair of hazel orbs he had dreamt of each day since.
"Kkk...ushi" he breathed a sigh of relief.
Her eyes adjusted to the darkness to find pair of hypnotizing brown eyes stare back at her.
"A...rrnavji."
