And initially the professional scenes were required to establish his character - how else would we have known how strict a disciplinarian, just, firm and how professional he is - all desirable traits for Anandi's future husband. It also portrayed the convergence of their thought processes, professional interests, capabilities and actual work and how good they are as a team. And finally we saw through the initial scenes the development of mutual respect for each other (important foundation on which later Shiv's affection for Anandi grew; and from Anandi's side- to be appreciated for who she was- after all the criticism, derision and insults of Jagya- which helped further restore her self-confidence).
