What to Say Anjumanju...you are just awesome to bring in these important aspects of the show which will always be remembered for its class..and never amazes that what we had been analyzing until our minds went haywire...there they were...all in the mind of the CVs...

Thanks for posting, Piu and Anjal for the interview with Manasi! Would love to read her whole take on the scene whenever you post her words too.

There was always layering in the scene without a doubt and there is a reason we gush about it to this day...there was just SO much going on on so many levels that it blows your mind each time you watch it...the bit where Kesar says, "Tu hai meri pareshaani" is Gulaal's first warning and you can see the wariness in her eyes coming in there even as she almost freezes waiting to see what he will say next...If as Manasi says, this was Gulaal's realization that she herself is in love with Kesar (must be a very VERY subconscious realization then cuz it's hard to find in the scene), it might be at the point where he says, "Toh phir kyun teri aur meri duniya alag hai?"...I always thought that Gulaal's tears at that point are for her realization that Kesar's feelings for her have indeed evolved and he is now in love with her and the tears were for her being overwhelmed by that emotion.

Gulaal always loved him...the being "in love" part was always a bit trickier though...I thought the way she cried in that scene showed that she had always loved him but the way he put it to her in that scene, she was crying over the reality of what he said...like a mix of pain and realization...pain for him talking about the time when her entire world revolved around him and they were each other's world brought back the pain of all that had happened, the reasons why she had to send him away...and the fact the realization that his love for her had evolved and as Manasi is saying that Gulaal's own love for him had evolved in that bit.

I thought that the reason Gulaal didn't move away from him in that bit initially was cuz she was in so much shock and sort of frozen in that moment at all he told her...so it wasn't about the physical proximity as it was about the meaning of what he was saying to her...she couldn't look away, couldn't move away from THAT...but yes she finally snaps out of it when the pain is just too much...ironically making the excuse of him holding her too tightly but it was actually the pain in his eyes that got too much for her before she finally got him to snap out of it too and let her go and ofcourse put the ghoonghat back on to compose herself as she always did...

Thanks Piyu for the thread to gush abt one of the best enacted scene in decade of television watching and thank you Anj for bringing us Mansi's take on the most discussed scene, will love to read her exact words…

I agree with Anu, if this was meant as a realization scene for Gulaal, then it was underplayed completely, cause I never realized it when watching it, in spite of watching it again and again my view remains same…

What did come across for me was the fact that she for the first time ever realized the impact DV had on young impressionable mind of Kesar and words of MB ringing true in her mind, in that frozen moment when he says, bachpan mein teri saari duniya mere ird gird ghumti thi, that's when he stops for sec…and she glances down, knowing what was coming, dreading what she was about to hear, and when finally she does, first time ever she *sees* what MB had always tried to emphasise to her and no she is not flinching cause she understand his pain, she can feel it too, he is not wrong, never was wrong he was doing exactly what was expected of him, ten years ago a promise that was made, being her kavach, it was her comprehension of this fact, not expressed explicitly but none the less conveyed impressively…

Kesar is still not clear what he feels for her is love ,for him she had always been his world and though he had made that conscious decision to be away for ten long years knowing the bitter truth, even that wasn't enough to destroy that pull he felt towards her and that subconscious feeling of belonging that's why, in the morning when she completely ignored him, he found their exclusivity invaded and the space that he always felt secure in was at stake, there comes the question, instigated by her ignorance of the fact that he was there trying to get her attention in the best possible way i.e. throwing a tantrum, he always got away with it she came running putting all her work away so why was it different now, this is something he is unable to understand….something he had always taken for granted..her being around him….and what he feels is his haq…..

For me putting that ghughat back was way of gathering herself to this realization of his changed feelings towards her,his evolved feeling towards her and yes how she had to stand for herself against these,one strong woman this one……realization of his feelings, acceptance of her mistakes, determination to put things straight…that's how I see it…
