For these famous sibling duos, Raksha Bandhan goes far beyond just a day of celebrating their brother-sister bond.
'Ektaa ties me a rakhi a few days later'
Tusshar Kapoor is not a traditional person but elder sis Ektaa is. Says Tusshar, "If she can't tie me a rakhi on Raksha Bandhan, Ektaa ties me a rakhi a few days later."
Tusshar feels that though they're underfoot almost every day, this day becomes an opportunity to show off their affection. "I'm not very demonstrative though she knows I love her dearly," he adds.
The younger brother of TV's czarina maintains that they fought like cats and dogs as children. "We used to share the same room and go to school in the same car," he laughs. They no longer fight now, instead "Ektaa continues to buy me gifts all the time while I hardly buy her any," he rues. Though he loves her to pieces, Tusshar does wish that his sister make a few changes to her lifestyle. "She tends to neglect herself as she's always so swamped with work," he complains.
As Raksha Bandhan is about a brother pledging protection to his sister, does Tusshar feel the need to be a knight in shining amour? "She is a very confident person but she can be gullible at times. She tends to misjudge people, and earlier would trust people too easily. Now she is more aware and practices caution." However, Tusshar insists that Ektaa is still a little girl in many ways, "She continues to have a sweet tooth, loves chocolate, is a messy eater and refuses to go to the dentist!" —Faheem Ruhani
'We don't believe in the tradition of Raksha Bandhan'
He is the quintessential bratty baby brother and that's precisely why he's Isha Sharvani best friend. What strikes you about Tao Issaro (apart from his Mohawk) is that they have completely different surnames. "When I was born, my parents decided to name me Isha meaning Ishwar (God) and Sharvani which is another name for the Goddess Parvati. When Tao came along, he was named after my father who used to be a Buddhist monk in Thailand," reveals Isha.
On the outset they might seem as different as chalk and cheese — she's into classical dance, he's a part of a rock band, but as far as their love for their art goes, it is difficult to say who has more passion. "Tao is only 15 and already has a demo CD of his band. He is learning both the tabla and mridangam and wants to go abroad to learn music composition," says Isha.
For Tao, Isha is the best dancer ever and he accepts that ultimate dedication is something he's learnt from his big sis. "I used to see her practice for hours and her never-say-die spirit has always encouraged me," he adds.
More than celebrating Raksha Bandhan as a festival, they believe in the everyday, healthy relationship they share. "We don't believe in the tradition of Raksha Bandhan. We share everything with each other and it is this trust that proves how strong our relationship is," ends Isha. -Divya Unny
