Indian Idol is in its sixth season and unlike its counterpart in the US, it has not produced a single singer / performer / artist who went on to make it big!
While American Idol has given artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia Barrino, Carrier Underwood and Adam Lambart, who have actually made a name for themselves in the music and entertainment field after their stint with American Idol!
While hardly anyone from Indian Idol has made it big in bollywood...most of them have ended up anchoring shows or participating in other musical shows or at the best, be a supporting part of stage shows meant for the more popular bollywood singers and performers!
The only contestants I can remember from Indian Idol who have earned some name for themselves are Abhijeet Sawant, Rahul Vaidya, Meiyang Chang and now Shreeram. None of them have got a breakthrough in bollywood (which is actually the litmus test to be a successful singer in our country) or done a successful album on their own!
Is there something essentially wrong with our version of Idol that it hasn't been able to produce one single, successful artist till date? Or is there an overkill of these singing shows which dilutes the quality of participants? Or are these shows just hogwash to garner more TRP's?
