Arnav was fixing his tie, angrily muttering to himself about how ridiculous he felt. He could hear Khushi downstairs telling Nani how scared she was last night when it was storming crazily and no one had been at home with her.
Jab dekho gala phar phar ke baat kar ti hai yeh larki!! thought Arnav.
He could hear her saying, "Pehle to hum dar gaye ke koi ghar ke ander chori chori ana chah raha hai! Likin phir humne socha ke hum kyun kissi se darrein? Hum bhi to Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada hain!..."
Arnav grabbed his wallet and looked at himself in the mirror. Surely, he couldn't be that bad right? Temper and impulsiveness apart, he couldn't be so terrible that Khushi absolutely refused to give in to him? He thought of last night when he came back early from his meeting in Agra. He had knocked on the door several times and nobody had answered. Knowing that Khushi was the only one that was supposed to be home he had gotten worried and had decided to go around to the back of the house and enter near the pool side...
"Humney Arnavji ga plant utha liya tha uss chor ko marney ke liye, lekin wo to aise humari taraf arra tha jaise ke wo chor nahi, kahin ka laad saab ho. Hum marney hi wale the uss ko jab ussne humara haath pakar liya aur hummey kaha Shutup Khushi! Kya pagalpan kari ho tum! "
Arnav rolled his eyes listening to Khushi's story. It was true of course, she had tried to attack him and he had stopped her. She left out the part where she had hugged him, refusing to let go because of how scared she was that she was going to be attacked by some random man. ASR had held onto her. He had taken the plant from her hand, reassured her that she wasn't in danger, he even let go the fact that she had ruined one of his plants! But what did he get for doing all that? Nothing.
His stubborn wife wouldn't even smile at Arnav's drenched, somewhat muddy, all together ridiculous appearance after getting soaked in the rain.
"What do i bloody do, damn it!?" Arnav said, banging his fist against the dresser.
He was bloody frustrated. Never in his life had he had to work so hard on something. Never had he failed after trying so much. He was genuinely trying to get Khushi back, but she was acting like...acting like... he didn't even know what to think anymore. Whatever she was acting like, he didn't like it.
Still lost in his frustrating thoughts, Arnav barely heard Khushi walking in. She was humming to herself lightly, he was happy to see that a little of the old Khushi was returning due to last night's craziness.
"I'll bring back your smile and make you mine Mrs. KKGSR." Thought Arnav smiling to himself.
Khushi snapped her fingers in front of Arnav's face. He looked rather creepy, staring at her and smiling to himself. He jerked his head up and looked confused for half a second before realizing that he had been lost in thought.
"Arnavji, aap pagal hain kya?" asked Khushi in the most normal voice.
"What the?" Arnav said, his face confused again. "Obviously main pagal nahi hoon."
"To phir pagalon wali harkatein kyun karte hain?" she asked, rolling her eyes at him.
"Humein aise dekh te jaa rahein pichle ek minute se jaise ke..." Khushi looked as though she couldn't find the right word to describe how Arnav had been looking at her. He face distorted for a second and she rolled her eyes again. She wasn't going to give up her attitude for anybody.
"Kaise dekh raha ta tumhe?" ASR asked stepping towards her, smirking.
"Aise ke... bas ajeeb tarha dekh rahe thay aap."
"What do you mean by ajeeb Khushi?" Arnav continued to step towards her and smiled again as he saw her step back.
"Umm...aap walk kiye baghair baath nahi kar sakte kya?" Khushi asked loudly, glaring at him. "Aap wahan karey rehke bhi baath kar sakte thay. Baar baar humarey paas aane ki kya zaroorat hai hai aap aapko?" Khushi was stuttering a bit now that ASR had cornered her against a wall.
Arnav rested his arm against the wall next to Khushi's head which was now against the wall too. He didn't know what it was that attracted him to her so intensely. Sure she was beautiful, but he had met so many beautiful girls...they just never compared to his wife for some odd reason. He couldn't explain why he loved and hated the fact that she stood up to him, that she refused to swoon when he was around...well most of the time she refused to swoon, but sometimes she did a bad job hiding the fact that she wanted him too.
He could tell from the way that her breathing picked up and her heart sped that she felt the same way he did. God, how he hated and loved her stubborn nature.
"Tumahre paas nahi aaonga to kiss ke paas aaonga?" He asked raising his eyebrow at her. Relishing the way she lowered her gaze and he could see, if he looked closely enough, a tiny hint of a smile starting at her lips. She wouldn't give him the satisfaction of seeing her smile though, so she quickly turned her lips down in a pout and shoved him.
"Dekhein aap itni miithi baathein kareinge na tho aapki sugar level high ho jayegi. Aap office jayein aur hummey Jaane dijiye."
She pushed against him again and he let her go. Ten cool points for the clever comeback Khushi. He thought to himself. Smiling again.
Khushi was leaving the room, but turned to look at Arnav. Maybe she was surprised that he had let her go? Maybe she was surprised that he hadn't followed her and grabbed her again? Or maybe she was in shock that for once her husband didn't lose his temper. She turned to walk out when she heard him speak.
"Waise kal raat to tum khudi meri baahon mein aayi thi Khushi." he said.
She turned to face him. he was standing against the wall his arms were crossed and that dumb ASR smirk was on his face.
He was right though, she had hugged him when she realized it was him and not some chor trying to get into the house. Hey Devi Maiyyan! Ab kya kahein hum! She thought to herself.
"Haan tho? Wo tho humney isliye kiya tha kyun ki wo... Wo hum...Haan!! Humney tho-"
Arnav walked towards her briskly and cut her off by placing his finger on her lips.
"Don't worry Khushi. Aaj nahi to kal, tumne meri baahon mein hi aana hai. Kal achi practice ho gayi thi na? " He smiled and tucked her behind her ear.
"Tum jo bhi karlo, mein tumhe mana ke rahunga aur tumhe hassa ke bhi." Arnav said lightly.
"Aur aap jitni bhi pyaari pyaari baathein karlein, hum aapko apna pathi nahi maneinge!" Khushi said stubbornly stomping her foot.
Arnav used his fingers to pull Khushi's chin up. He looked at at her for a second and said, "Pathi tho tum mujhe already maanti ho Khushi."
Khushi opened her mouth to set him straight, but he cut her off again.
"Agar tum mujhe pathi nahi maanti to mujhe apne itna kareeb aane deti? Tumhein jungle wali raat nahi yaad Khushi? Yaad dila doon kyaa?" He said as he leaned in towards her face.
Khushi gasped and blushed at the thought of that night...he had been so close to her... But before she could do anything else Arnav smirked his usual arrogant smirk and walked out the door leaving her speechless.
Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada completely speechless? Well there's a first time for everything, he thought as he walked down to his car feeling quite proud of himself.
