ROLE OF FEMALE PROTAGONIST'
Mo d e l - t u r n e d - a c t o r Deepika Kamaiah, who made quite a splash in her first project, Chingari opposite Darshan, wants to choose roles that give her an opportunity to show her acting prowess. So much so that she signed her second Kannada film six months after her debut released. Her next film will be Neene Bari Neene, which will be directed by Deepak Thimmaiah, a popular TV anchor. Deepika will romance Anees Thejaswar, who has a couple of art house films to his credit, including Police Quarters.
"I was lucky to get such a fantastic break with Chingari opposite a big star like Darshan. I
got several offers not just
from Sandalwood, but
from the Tamil and
Telugu film industries as well.
However, the
roles I was offered to play were
similar to the character I played in my previous film — a glam doll — and I didn't want to take them up. When Deepak told me about Neene…, I was extremely glad as this movie has a lot to offer for a female actor. Since it's also from a big banner, I readily agreed," explains Deepika.
The title of the movie, Neene Bari Neene, is taken from the solo Kannada album that Sonu Niigaam released in 2009. "We will use that as our title song and Sonu will be the voice of the film. It's going to be very different from other musical love stories and I am sure that my role will be a memorable one," says the 2009 PFMI South finalist.
Deepika has been getting a lot of offers in Kollywood too. "My first film, Aanmai Thavarael, was an offbeat subject that did decent business at the BO. Since I was busy working on Chingari, I couldn't take up any more Tamil films. I have got one Tamil and one Telugu film offer, but I don't want to talk about them until things are finalized," she signs off.
