I was thinking of reasons for why are some (girls mainly) just un-willing to accept a common sense advise of exercising caution in dressing and behavior and that too under certain cirumstances and in some situations where they are likely to get harmed. Whats the big deal? We do that for other crimes as well.
However the stubborness that I have seen here and in last topic has now made me to ponder. Why? I have objectively come to following possible reasonings.
1) Since their gender is the potential victim they feel strongly and un-willing to listen to any excuse.
2) The advise comes from men mostly so they see it as insensitivity towards them.
3) Idealism. They think that ideally it should just not happen.
4) Focus. They believe that focus should be on the more important thing i.e. rapist
5) Men versus women issue. They take role of champion of women's cause
6) Freedom. They should be free to do whatever they want
7) Deregatory. maybe they think victim is being labelled as a person of not good character
8) Guilty concious. ok i myself wear such clothes.
9) "main hoon hi nahi is duniya ki". i just dont want to listen to anything.
I guess its a mix bag of above lol. I dont care to be honest. This is the debate where I have the most posts and the reason I particpated most was not because I am guilty of above lol or some moral police. I just never understood what is that people were not getting. why so much stubborness.
If I were to bet on one reason then I would put my bet on 1. Since they share characteristics with victim they have a different mindset which we cannot get. Maybe they feel strongly about it as the crime is so wrong that they dont want to listen to any excuse. This is fine with me. I understand. Therefore hopefully my last post on this topic. Just be careful.

@Seoulbeats: Didn't you say that "Dressing scandalously in the middle of nowhere is dangerous, we all know that."
And in the posts preceding that, you constantly argued about NOT CHANGING THE WAY OF DRESSING.
Contradictory. I think so.

@King-Anu: Eloquently put.

@sayali_babes-
If a person wants to dress scandalously/indecently then there are other forms of caution that can be exercised which is what I have been saying repeatedly.

"Caution can be exercised in several different and more pragmatic ways rather than changing your dressing style-Increase police security and responsibility, learn self defense, carry selfdefensematerial if possible, always be alert and walk in groups, don't leave your drink alone, park in well lit areas,carry a whistle etc.Neither these methods nor dressing appropriately are foolproof but all do fall under the category of caution."

Does the person who is wearing shorts in an unsafe area already not know that it can be dangerous? So there can be two ways around it- change your dress or exercise other forms of caution.

Well, then that puts to rest the debate itself, don't it?

The nation has been rocked by various instances of child sex abuse... Sick minds do it for gratifying their lust and getting a sense of dominance. They view the shameful act as a "conquest". A women's dressing sense is a convenient excuse for justifying rape, a lot of mud slinging on the girl's character also takes place. Given the ordeal, only a few women come forward to report instances of rape.

A lot of countries castrate serial sex offenders..chemical castration of rapists must be introduced in India too.

A man who wants to rape someone will rape anyone, regardless of what clothes the woman is wearing.

A civilised man will not rape a woman whether she is covered head-to-toe, or whether she is naked head-to-toe.

An uncivilised/disgusting man will rape anyone.
However, it is true that in many cases that these kinds of men are more likely to attack women who wear less clothing, as they probably get more attracted to seeing skin etc.. It's harsh but it's true.
But that doesn't mean the girl asked to get raped or that she deserved it, it just means she is more vulnerable to rape than women who are more covered.

However, in a minority of cases it could be the other way round. Some men actually rape those women who appear to them to be pure, as it makes them feel more powerful.

But yes most will attack those with less clothing. We shouldn't however have to dress in a certain way simply because there are perverts in the world, but if dressing in more clothing lessens the likelihood of you getting raped, then I guess you should cover yourself more.

I know people will say why do we have to change, when it's them at fault, but you have to think about it this way... Rapists don't care about you or other girls, they're mentally disturbed, but you're not. So you should do the responsible thing and protect yourselves.

It's easy for me to say this because I'm always covered head-to-toe. But it also makes me feel safer around people.
