THE BLACK LADY RULED
The 59th Idea Filmfare Awards 2011 (South) in Chennai was an electrifying event
The evening saw camaraderie, bonding, laughs and some drama between the stars of the south industries who were gathered under one roof. Singers Karthik and Chinmayi played hosts for the evening and had the audience cheering, laughing and clapping for more. At one point, they got celebs to sing and while Khushbu and Karthi did, Mahesh Babu sweetly declined. Sadly, Kamal couldn't croon due to a bad throat but Vikram made up for it in style! The on-stage performances kept the audience mesmerised as did the appearance of Bollwood actress Deepika Padukone. It was a night that ended too soon, said many, while others went home with stars in their night saying it was an unforgettable evening. The Black Lady gloriously dazzled the city of Chennai yet again! A N D H E R E ' S H OW T H E S TA R S B O N D E D
KOLAVERI MAGIC: Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth walked in just in time to see her hubby Dhanush perform Kolaveri Di... and a medley of other numbers. She looked mesmerized and seemed to have rediscovered the magic in her husband's voice. ALL IN THE FAMILY: Padmashri Kamal Haasan gave to his daughter, Shruti Haasan, her first ever Best Debut trophy for her Tamil Film 7aum Arivu and Telugu film Anaganaga O Dheerudu. The father-daughter duo complimented each other and he teased her on how now they had 20 Filmfare Awards — 19 of his and one of hers!
WHAT'S COOKING? Trisha seemed to have walked in with Rana Daggubati and there are whispers there's something brewing. Apparently, he has moved on from being Bipasha Basu's knight-in-shining armour.
COMEBACK QUEEN: Nayanthara's self-imposed exile and comeback has not affected her popularity one bit. She walked away with the Best Actor Female Telugu for a film she says will always be close to her heart. MANKATHA DA: Venkat Prabhu and Premgi had the crowd in splits when they accepted an award on behalf of a winner. In fact, Premgi did an A R Rahman and said, "Ella pugazhum iraivanukkay." And someone in the crowd yelled out, "Ennai kodumai saar idhu", which is Premgi's catchphrase!
B-TOWN HOTTIE: Deepika Padukone was the only B-Town actress who came down for the awards. She was seated next to Kamal and it was interesting to see the Rajinikanth heroine bond with the Ulaganyagan. Do we see him making her a movie offer soon?
ALL-TIME FAVOURITE: Vikram received the Critics Award for Best Actor for Deiva Thiirumagal. But what had everyone cheering for him was also his splendid singing — he sang Thenpandi Seemayiley...from Nayagan and had Kamal Haasan smiling away. SUPER SINGER: No one knew this actor could sing — but he did and how! Karthi sang Anjala... from his brother Suriya's movie Vaaranam Aayiram and had the crowd on its feet!
HAT-TRICK SINGER: Shreya Ghoshal might have missed coming to the do, but her presence was very much felt, thanks to the three awards she bagged for Best Singer Female. She won it for her Kannada, Malayalam and Telugu songs. The music directors of the respective films collected it on her behalf. LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
