Episode Analysis
I find it interesting seeing the Scindias' reactions in view of the results of what happened. Would they have reacted the same way if everything hadn't turned out hunky dory and they didn't get a powerful surrogate daughter to boot? Perhaps not and it makes me ponder how good intentions only really mean something when the intentions play out in favour of the intentioned.
But then on a deeper level, I think SP and Gayatri saw something in this event beyond Yash and Aarti helping Neelam and Kunal. They saw them working together, united, for a common goal, and succeeding when days before (in PV land) Yash had sworn never to forgive Aarti for trying to take Arpita's place. Now they see how she has completely turned the tables by being herself and following her instincts with regards to Yash. She gave him a will to fight that nobody else in the family could and I like to think the parents recognised that which brings me to...
All the loops left open when Aarti tried to be Arpita are being closed as she comes into her own as Aarti Yash Scindia and nobody else. When Aarti became Arpita, she made similar promises as the ones she is making today as Aarti, but they didn't lead her to fruition as they are now. Then too, she saw Yash's fear over Arpita and vowed to take his fear away and bring happiness back into his life. Today she makes a similar promise, not seeing the fear inspired by his past, but the hope inspired by his present, her magic wand. I thought this word choice was especially significant (as were they all in that little dialogue) because of Palak's birthday party theme, fairyland, hinting the closure of that loop as confirmed by the precap. At the birthday party, Aarti chose the theme of fairyland but she forgot to be true to her theme, and succumbed to the idea of what Palak wanted, her mother, Arpita, instead of wisely being what she needed, a fairy godmother, Aarti. In becoming Arpita, she shed her own magic wand, ready to sacrifice it for Palak, not knowing that that magic was just what the lonely little girl needed.
Now an interesting possibility has opened up in that Yash knows of her magic wand and her special brand of magic and that in itself is another loop closure because at the birthday party, she wanted to show him and Palak magic and all they saw was deceit. Today she lied to the minister and his wife to get them to see reason, and where there was deceit, Yash saw magic!
Similarly, where before SP saw rebellion and insubordination, today he sees a dutiful and strong companion for his equally head strong son, one that knows how to bring him into line without him realising it or having a chance to resist. Today not only did Yash express the value of love and life, he also said that if parents understood their kids better, kids would not resort to death as a means of escape. Somewhere in there was hidden a gem for SP, who has failed to understand his son, causing him to seek out death, obviously not in the literal way that Neelam did but there was an echo of the autocratic parent-child relationship in that speech. Today SP saw a preview of Yash embracing his life once more in his desire to do Neelam's kanyadaan. In seeing Yash's feelings before him, SP understands what exactly Aarti has brought about by merely understanding Yash and giving his feelings space and importance, basically, how cleverly she has "managed him" and he forgives his condition in all fairness.
All this while in Gayatri there is a sense of pride, that she saw this in Aarti before her husband did and a triumph that her growing faith in Aarti was proven right in the end. I absolutely loved Gayatri's confidential little pep-talk to Aarti about Yash. The road ahead may not be easy, but you must persevere and you will succeed, she tells Aarti. Yash looked absolutely horrified that his mother was advocating his case to his wife, and though the obvious awkwardness was there, I felt more embarrassment coming from him that his mother should talk about him like a child in front of a girl he is subconsciously trying to impress. And of course the kangan. How fitting that Arpita's kangan were not returned to Aarti when she was closest to Arpita, but returned when she found herself a legitimate part of this family as Aarti. And yet there is a loop left open in that Aarti has never given or taken these kangan willingly, save for once, when she tried to give them back to Yash on the first night.
I actually felt sympathy for Bua today. She was all alone amidst all the couples and lurking in the background when SP and Gayatri were talking about the joy of having daughters. It must be terrible to feel that all this progress is happening too late for it to have an effect on her, and she is determined not to let Aarti be happy, because she couldn't. Amidst all the merry making, her presence kept alive the dark underbelly of the girl child.
I also have to give a shout out to flirtatious Aarti who was totally delicious. When Yash complimented her, something emerged from within that we have never seen before, a confident and sassy Aarti, who informed him that someone was working their magic on her. Yash, of course being adorably dense, asked...who? giving Aarti time to recover herself and provide a not-so-clever cover up. But that dialogue also had some significance in that Yash had told Neelam that season of love had gone from both their lives, and Aarti says, that the season's magic was working its magic...what season? That is a question for Yash to answer. And oh, the ivy-covered pillar and the innocently seductive glances that our supposedly demure heroine threw her beloved's way, only to disappear when he searched for her, got our gallant hero's soulful eyes to search and question...asking all the right ones. I am definitely looking forward to more of this!
