The first is how apt that song was for Aarti's story with Prashant! It was all about a girl whose lover makes big promises to her but ends up abandoning her, and even though the lyrics cannot be taken seriously (at least by me), I find it really interesting that they showed this completeness in the disguised state of Yash and Aarti. While Yash shared his feelings with Aarti, Aarti shared her past with Yash through the song. It felt fitting though because Aarti would not want anyone to be sad or solemn because of her pain and so she shares it in a way that is light and imperceptible.
I also liked the fact that after Yash found Kunal and came back, he and Aarti had their little silent communication and continued dancing with that much more celebration, both looking as though they thoroughly enjoyed the dancing, and that too, together. They forgot themselves for a while and just enjoyed the moment in which they could hide behind the needs of their disguise and ignore all their inhibitions.
I thought it was important that Yash thanked Aarti and told her it couldn't have happened with out her, in the light of what happened next. It shows hat he will defend her completely because he has promised her he would, and because he realises how much he needed her. And i think his discover of her continued into the scene with SP. He feels safe and trusts her because she told him before she left with him that she was ready to face the consequences of her actions. She was ready to make the parents understand or at worst listen to their taunts, and Yash saw her calmly living up to her word despite the fact that his father's accusations were totally unjust.
On unpacking SP's speech, I feel there were several things off about it.
1. He assumed Aarti had "taken" Yash somewhere when she had merely followed him where he had decided to go - This is not really going to affect Aarti because she is used to these accusations and was prepared for an assault, but it is having an effect on Yash. By making these assumptions, SP is taking the manhood away from his own son and assigning his DIL a maternal role, counteracting the closeness he claims to want to see in the couple. In reality, I believe it is the cowardice of SP. He can sense the power slipping from his hands when his sons are repeatedly defying him so he picks on someone "weaker" than him to feel in power again.
2. He asserts that they have a right to stop Yash - SP is horrified that his word is not the law in the house anymore and in his desperation he is justifying his right to protect his son. As a parent he prefers not to let his son fall at all, rather than just being their to pick him up when he does. He is perhaps even more protective of Yash because he failed to save him from the biggest fall of all, the loss of Arpita. He is convinced that Aarti is the cure for what he could not prevent and is frustrated not to see the results he expects. He wants to shield Yash from unpleasantness completely, even his own and so he takes his anger out on Aarti who was supposed to be complicit in this mission. He doesn't understand how that enables Yash's distance from the family.
3. He asks Aarti why she keeps breaking their trust - This was the only semi-optimistic thing about his speech. It means he trusted Aarti in the first place because she brought Yash out from a near death experience just the day before. But he was not privy to a lot of things that happened to Aarti while she went through the process of saving Yash and what it meant to both her and Yash. That day she left Yash's side which resulted in him almost dying so today she stuck to him to protect him. I hope SP gets to see that and understand her motives. I have a feeling Gaya will.
4. He called her the mother of one kid - This is what irked me the most, but of course it was totally in character. I don't think it was so much SP not considering Aarti PayPal's mother, but the fact that he doesn't hold her role as their mother in high priority. This was also seen when he was lecturing Shobha. He says they could have kept dozens of servants to care for the girls but they wanted a companion for Yash. For SP, being a mother is nothing more than the physical aspect of care taking. That is why he cannot fathom Aarti as the girls' mother when she has not given birth to them. It shows also how little Palak and Payal matter to him.
This is the biggest place where Gayatri differs and I am hoping she comes out in Aarti's favour, at least for the girls...and for Yash whom she seems to understand more than her husband. Her first instinct when she saw the empty room was to question where Yash had gone, plus she was the one to ask Aarti why she hadn't gone with Yash. I have a feeling some support is coming Aarti's way from her.
