To a certain extent, it is fine to focus on looks. Everyone enjoys good looking stars. But plot, story, acting, etc also do matter in a show. I think the television shows these days tend to be catered to a younger more immature audience that is more fixated on looks and hot couples rather than substance or character. They are young, don't know better and focus on shallow obsessions. Hopefully, when they get older most will realize how silly these obsessions are and think of more important things.

Voldermoth? Typo or intentional misspell of Voldemort

Hi,
but i don't think audience is so immature and young.being young doesn't mean to be immature.
yes i do agree that audience do demands hot couples and good looking actors but it doesn't mean they ignore their actions. The audience may be initially get fascinated by looks but in long run characterization, story matters and acting of that actor matters the most.
I believe if characterization is intriguing and story is gripping and actors knows to act, then serial will run definately . So many shows hits come day after a day and all of them has good looking actors but few able to make places in viewers heart. Its not about looks at all

Well, I think its more out of what we have been subconsciously taught instead of just being superficial.
In our oldest of fairy tales, have you ever come across an ugly heroine? She is of course the pretty doe eyed creature.
I feel that we tend to look for all good things clubbed together and looks are the easiest of them to spot an identify with. Very few of us would actually condemn a person real life just because s/he is ugly. But when it comes to stories, perfect universe prevails. Somehow, good looks are subconsciously viewed as a privilege from God and privilege comes to those who have done something good.
The Indian soap opera is yet to come to a stage where we can expect any character to succeed on the basis of performance of grey characters. The target audience is mostly the ones who would be interested in cheesy stories. Thus they all believe that if the person is depicted as good looking, there *must* be an explanation to the actions.
PS man, I have been away since long. The thread is mostly dead but... sigh
