Chapter 42

Arnav: Akash what are you doing here?

Akash looked at his cousin bewildered and wondering why is bhai completely drenched? He was brought out of his thoughts when Arnav was waving his hand in front of his face.

Arnav: Akash where are you? What do you want?

Akash: Oh yes bhai. Di..

Arnav concerned: What? What's happened to Di?

Akash: No nothing's happened to her. It's Jijaji. He's unconscious and Di can't stop crying.

Arnav closed his eyes thinking what is that b******d playing at now? He opened his eyes and looked at Akash.

Arnav: Khushi and I will be there in a moment. You go ahead and look after Di.

Akash: Yes bhai.

Akash leaves from there and Arnav closes the door. Khushi had heard the whole conversation.

Khushi: Arnav you go change and go to Di. I will follow.

Arnav: No we are going together. You grab some clothes and go change in the washroom and I will change in here. Just pass me a towel.

Khushi did as she was told while Arnav closed the open french door, locking it and closing the curtain. Khushi walked in the washroom locking it behind her as Arnav locked the main door. Both got dry and changed. Arnav knocked on the washroom.

Arnav: Khushi how long you going to be?

Khushi unlocked the washroom door and came out in a light blue churidar while Arnav had changed into his causals. Both of them had towel dried hair and both looking worried. He held out his hand which she took as they made their way towards the door. Arnav unlocked it, they went out and made their way to Anjali's room.

In Anjali's room all were present. Anjali was by Shyam's side crying her eyes out. Arnav and Khushi walked in.

Arnav: Di.

Everyone looked around to see them. They looked at the pair in wonderment why they looked like they had both had a shower this late. Arnav and Khushi walk over to Anjali who is beside herself with worry. Arnav sits next to her on the bed while Khushi stands behind him. Arnav places his hand on Anjali shoulder making her turn his way. She looks at him with tears.

Arnav: Di what's happened?

Anjali crying: Chotte….Chotte…Look at your jijaji…..he's….he's not waking up.

All of a sudden Shyam started fidgeting.

Shyam: Ummm…..Rani Sahiba.

Anjali turns around hearing his voice and ends up hugging him while he is lying down. Shyam hugs her back while looking at Arnav with a glint in his eye.

FLASHBACK

Earlier Shyam had finished with his meeting and headed straight to the Malhotra's. As he knew everyone was already there, there was no use going back to Shantivan. From his office to the Malhotra's it took it half an hour to get there. Once there he started looking for the rest of the family. Everyone was having dinner by then. He saw Anjali and went over to her.

Anjali: Aap aagaye.

Shyam: Yes Rani Sahiba. Where is everyone else?

Anjali: What do you mean? Look we are all here.

Shyam looked around to only find Akash, Payal, Nani, Mama and Mami.

Shyam: Where is Khushiji?

Anjali: Khushiji?

Shyam: I mean sale sahib and Khushiji are not here.

Anjali: Oh yeah. Actually Chote must be working really hard nowadays. He said he had a headache. So he and Khushiji went home early. I am glad she went with him. She really does look after Chote.

Shyam was fuming. He knew it was Khushi's birthday and Arnav must have made up an excuse to get Khushi home. He was about to go when Anjali grabbed his hand.

Anjali: Where are you going?

Shyam: Rani Sahiba I forgot I had an urgent call to make.

Anjali: You can make your call afterwards. First eat. I know you and you more than likely haven't eaten since lunch. So please eat.

Shyam reluctantly sat down and started having food but he carried on looking at his watch and he was waiting for the chance to get out of there as soon as possible. As soon as they finished their food he ducked out making the excuse he had to make this call. Instead he went outside got the car keys of the valet, found out where the car was parked, got in and went back to Shantivan. It was already raining by then so he had to run towards his car as not to get drenched.

As soon as he got home he didn't know what he was going to. He got out of the car after parking it seeing Arnav's car. He went inside to see what he could find out. He first went to their room. He didn't know what he was going to say but in his obsession he couldn't think. He knocked on the door but nobody answered. He knocked again but still no answered. He tried pushing the door open but as it was locked he couldn't get in. He then went inside his own room frustrated. He put his hand through his ruffled, looking very angry and looking around from left to right. He then stated looking around. He went back downstairs to see if he could see them around there. His phone started ringing and he looked at who was phoning him. It was Anjali. He didn't bother picking it up. He didn't pick up even after the number of times Anjali had called him. He still looked around and found no one. He went back upstairs and looked around. He couldn't see them anywhere. Then it dawned on him maybe they are near the poolside he thought. So he went to the side panel where the poolside can be seen from. He looked around and couldn't see them but he saw the roses and the direction they were taking. He knew then. He went up the terrace, opened the door and saw Arnav with Khushi. The both of them gazing at each other while Arnav had Khushi in his arms. Shyam was fuming. He could see the gazebo from where he was but not what was under it. He saw Arnav and Khushi move away and he quietly and quickly ran towards the gazebo. He saw the cake and this made him mad. He picked up the cake and threw it. His suspicions were right. He went back to his room to think of what to do. With his phone still ringing ever so often he was pacing in his room when the idea struck him. He had faked the fainting.

After calling Shyam a number of times Anjali was getting frantic. She asked Akash to go see if he could find his jijaji. Akash came back after finding out jijaji had gone but he was not sure where. This made Anjali worry more. She wanted to go home. It was lucky the people who lived opposite them were also at the Malhotra's. They asked them if they had room in their car for one person which they did. Anjali wanted to sit in their car but Payal said no she would. So they all headed home. Once Anjali got home she started ringing for Shyam. He still didn't answer. Everyone was trying to calm her down but nobody could. Nani insisted Payal take Anjali back to her room while Anjali still called her husband. She walked into her room with Payal and the pair froze seeing Shyam on the floor. Anjali went beside him while Payal ran to call Akash. The whole house was in commotion. Akash with the help of his dad managed to get Shyam on to the bed while he headed towards Arnav's room to get Arnav.

FLASHBACK ENDS.

Arnav could see the glint in Shyam's eyes and knew this whole thing had been Shyam's elaborate plan. Well two can play at that game he thought.

Arnav: Has anyone called the doctor?

Akash: Bhai he's on his way.

Arnav: Hmmm…

The doctor arrives and checks Shyam. Once done he looks at Anjali.

Doctor: Your husband is fine. It looks like he just fainted from either exhaustion or maybe something else. I need him to come to clinic for some tests.

Shyam: Doctor I am fine.

Anjali: No. you listen to the doctor. Doctor he will come.

Shyam: Rani sahiba I'm fine.

Anjali: Fine. You are not fine. I told you to stop working so hard.

Shyam: But Rani Sahiba I do it for you.

Arnav wanted nothing but to kill him while Khushi and Payal looked away in disgust.

Arnav: Doctor you said something about exhaustion?

Doctor: Yes. It does happen sometimes when people don't look after their health.

Arnav: Well doctor why don't you give JIJAJI a sleeping injection? I mean he does have a habit of working a lot, even during the night and not getting much sleep. Isn't that right Di?

Anjali: You know Chote. Your right. Your jijaji just seems to work a lot.

Shyam nervous: Ummm….No I don't need it. I will be fine.

Arnav: What are you saying jijaji? I am sure Di would like it if you actually sleep peacefully tonight.

Shyam looked at Arnav and saw a certain glint in his eyes. Shyam knew what Arnav was up to and didn't like it one bit.

Arnav: Doctor I would appreciate if you did give jijaji a sleeping injection. When my Di worries I worry. So she is worried for her husband which makes me worry. Now if I worry my wife worries. Which would mean that there would be at least three other people who will not sleep tonight. Now doctor I think nobody would like that one bit. Plus if I'm awake all night I can guarantee I am not the best person to deal with first thing in the morning.

Everyone had to agree to this. The doctor had no choice as he also knew what it meant to say no the mighty ASR. Shyam was really nervous now. He started shuffling around not wanted to have the injection. Everyone saw this while Arnav got up, asked his sister to move a little backwards. She moved herself towards the bottom of the bed.

Arnav: Akash grab jijaji's other hand so the doctor can put the injection in his arm.

Shyam was really squirming but both Akash and Arnav grabbed him and had him pinned. The doctor put the injection in his arm while Shyam just glared at Arnav. Arnav just smirked at him. Slowly Shyam fell asleep. Everyone was surprised by Shyam's behaviour. The doctor took their leave as Akash guided him out. Arnav turned to look at Anjali.

Arnav: Di I would like it if you stay in my room tonight. Khushi and I will sleep in one the guest rooms.

Anjali: But Chote I can't leave your jijaji like this.

Arnav: Di jijaji is fast asleep and I would worry about you all night.

Nani: Even I agree with Chote on this Anjali bitiya. God knows what has happened to Damadji. Anjali bitiya even I would like it if you slept somewhere else then here.

Anjali: But nani.

Nani: No Anjali bitiya I will not take no for an answer. Instead of you sleeping in Chote's room come and sleep with me in mine. I think that would a better idea.

Arnav: That's a good idea nani. Di please do this for me.

Anjali: Ok Chote. I will.

Anjali reluctantly had to agree when everyone was insisting but she didn't want to leave Shyam. Even she had to wonder why he reacted the way he had but she put it in the back of her mind. Everyone then left for their own rooms with Anjali heading towards Nani room.

In Akash and Payal's room

Akash: I really can't believe jijaji acted the way he did.

Payal could only nod not saying anything but had a nagging feeling something bad was coming.

In mama and mami's room

Mami: I wonder why damadji was like that. Manorama bond will have to investigate.

Mama just smiled at his crazy wife.

In nani's room

Nani: Anjali bitiya is everything ok between you and damadji?

Anjali: Yes nani. Why did you ask?

Nani: I don't know. It was strange to see damadji act that way.

Anjali heard what nani said and wondered the same thing but thought she would ask him tomorrow.

In Arnav and Khushi's room

Khushi walked back into the room in a daze while Arnav walked in behind her, closed and locked the door. Khushi then turned around to look at Arnav.

Khushi: Arnavji I am worried.

Arnav: Khushi what did I ask you call me a while ago.

Khushi blushed remembering what had happened earlier.

Khushi: I know it's just gonna take a bit of time.

Arnav: Ok. Why you worried?

Khushi: I don't know I just am.

Arnav walks up to her puts one of his arms around her waist and the other cupping her cheek.

Arnav: Khushi please don't worry. I will take care of everything.

He started circling her cheek with his thumb reassuring her that everything will be ok. He then kissed her pulling her more towards him and deepening the kiss only letting her go to when both were out of breath. He looked at her.

Arnav: Let's get some sleep.

Saying this both got changed into their nightwear and fell asleep in each other's arms.
