For weeks, I've been trying to fathom what exactly is happening on Star's Millie. From whatever I've seen, there's always a butler who's forever vacuum cleaning, a few sexy housemaids; one of them is of course apni Millie (Mona Vasu) who is always upto some mischief. Then there are some overtly comic scenes which seemed to be beyond my comprehension. I mean, they aren't exactly any rib-tickling situations but just some childish banter.

How long will this go on? I mean, don't get me wrong. I am all for the soap which does stand out from the rest of the saas-bahu fare being churned out. But, its just that the track doesn't seem to be moving any further. By now the only thing we've figured out is that Millie, an orphan is sent as a young domestic in a not-so happy rich family. Initially, she's not accepted in the family but over a period of time she wins the heart of all and sndry.

What I find interesting is the way Millie's character has been etched out. Tomboyish chirpy and bindaas to the core. This week I saw her playing a football match with a great amount of gusto. And when she managed to sprain her leg, we also got to see a seventy year old Dadimaa who came to her help and scored the goal.

Hippie! Now we have a football playing protagonist on prime time. And I am so tempted to compare dadimaa to Baa from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi... I mean, an older character who can really shape up and prove to be the real lifeline of the serial. In this serial, I see the same to be happening.

The other point where the soap scores is that it's an attempt to reach out to a cross section of society as well as age groups. Though the protagonist is actually a maid servant yet there is enough gloss and glamour. A bit of the family scene, then two young men panting over Millie; looks like there's enough meat.

And, by the way by no stretch of the imagination does Mona Vasu look like a maidservant. In fact, I think enough efforts have gone into making her dorn the casual yet sexy look. In fact, apron clad Mona does stand out amongst the current femme fatales on the telly screen.

With Vinta Nanda at the helm of affairs, I believe there will many more new things to watch out for in the soap. Considering, she gave us the revolutionary soap Tara years ago which was a real paradigm shift.
