If S D Burman had been alive today, he would have been 100-years-old.
The legendary musician was born in Tripura and spent his childhood here. Music was in his blood, inherited from his father.
His first tutors were musicians Ustad Badal Khan and Bhishmadev Chattopadhyay.
S D Burman began his career with radio, mostly singing folk songs of the North East.
Even in later years, a lot of his compositions echoed the sounds of the North East and Bengal and he often preferred to sing such songs himself.
But it wasn't until 1944 that Sachin da reached Mumbai and made it his home, thus beginning his affair with Hindi cinema, which lasted till his death in 1975.
He left the legacy to his equally successful son Rahul Dev.
"He was a great musician and more importantly an amazing human being. He was a musician who understood very well and also had a very good understanding of folk music. He treated me like his own daughter," remembers Lata Mangeshkar, Singer.
For anyone who loves Indian music, Sachin da is a legend who will never fade and his music will never cease to thrill.
