Soothing as it is to bask in the sunshine of your admiration and approval, I must set the record straight. It is not that I am a maestro with a command over words. It is rather that I have always been in love with words, both their sound and their meaning. They in turn, having recognised this, are kind to me, and from time to time, they grant me that perfect phrase, that perfect sentence, that perfect para. For which I am always grateful, for get something exactly right, that is epiphany.
No, Laurie, not our 'fallen' prince, but rather a prince in exile. He has not fallen, you know, but risen, both in our esteem and in life as a whole.
As for your "cautious caterpillar" (what a perfect phrase! Words are kind to you too, Laurie, probably for the same reason as with me), she seems to advance one inch and then slide back two. Yesterday, as she was very hesitantly asking her aai's permission to start taking tuitions, she looked SO scared that my heart sank into my (well, I do not wear footwear inside the flat, so I better abandon this line!). Well, it just sank.
I too hope that such steel as there is in her spine will start setting soon, for right now, it is not just a question of her being "cautious around Archana and even submissive for a while". She is back to point zero. Even at the hospital, as Arjun is being hauled off by the police, there is no trace in her face of the managerial, calm, cool and can do young executive. She looks like a scaredy cat, decked out in that blue-green and magenta outfit for the nth time. (I am surprised that it has not got worn out by now).
@ red. It is not, to my mind, so much a question of Archana thinking that "Purvi is not sensible enough to see that Arjun is playing with her life and will eventually cheat her:. I do not know what she is actually thinking, but I don't believe it is this.
I think, as I have noted elsewhere, that Archana believes that Arjun will fail because she wants him to fail. That would suit her much better, otherwise, as she tells Sulochana after that ghastly scene when she slapped and berated Purvi, what face would she show to Manav and Ovi?
But then what of Purvi? Archana does not want to feel guilty about the suffering this will cause Purvi. What then is the way out? Why, just declare that Purvi is not in love with Arjun, she simply 'thinks' that she is in love with him! It is like what Humpty Dumpty says in Alice in Wonderland, " A word means what I say it means, neither more nor less".
Shyamala
Dear Shyamala,
You never fail to amaze me with your command of words. You are truly a gifted maestro and I am but a humble, ardent fan! 👏
It would seem that our fallen Prince, Arjun, has found a foothold amongst the slippery rocks and subjects of chawl living. What he once looked down upon with disdain has become a rather acquired taste for him. 😉Yes, he is very much adapting to change in dunamic with fine flourish as he finds himself among people who appear to be concerned for his well-being (whether they are doing this for the sake of humanity or knowing who he is remains to be seen).
I remember making the comment that he would 'find himself' in the chawl when the news broke of him moving there and by that I meant that he would make up for his lonely childhood. I remember him telling Purvi during their magical dance at the Pune conference that he watched movies with his cook and played video games as a child. No mention of family time or fun. 😕This shift in residential status will help become a well-adjusted human being as now personal relationships will take on a new meaning for him. He will form all sorts of bonds that would have been alien to him in his last avatar ' an employee, a neighbor, a big brother, a friend.
For what it's worth, I think it's a great story line for him to explore and it will be interesting to see how he will cultivate and maintain these new rishtas. I'm sure Rithvik is using his own personal experiences in moving from Dubai to India to flesh these scenes out. I like the freshness in his approach and his naivete is very becoming on him. 😉As for my princess Purvi, she is going through a metamorphosis of her own. Right now she is still the cautious caterpillar that is unsure of herself when it comes to her strength and standing up for her own desires. Remember, it was Arjun that actually coaxed her into this new world by forcing her to make some very tough decisions that went against her 'chawl brainwashing'.Since accepting Arjun's proposal, the seeds of independence have begun to sprout in her mind and the strength and confidence of her lover's unwavering determination is giving her inspiration. She will be cautious around Archana and even submissive for a while as she has sanskaars and respects her mother - as one should.Little by little though, the drum beats out of time. ⭐️
She has begun to put Arjun first as she sees how much he has sacrificed for her sake and she will now be willing to meet him in return. The steel in her spine is setting and cooling. If Arjun faces any adversity or degradation, even if it's from her own mother , Purvi will spring to his defense faster than the speed of sound. 👍🏼She will not let him be berated by anyone and this will be the proof that everyone needs (including Arjun) that Purvi is not going anywhere. All we need to look for is the catalyst ' when I find it I'll let you know.Teju has always been one of my favorite characters and, to date, she has always been true to logic (fingers crossed the CVs don't flip her for the sake of sensationalism). She will be an essential voice of reason for the many upcoming hysterics that I'm sure are on the way once Arjun's secret alter-ego of 'Mechanic Man' is discovered. Lord help us all!Archana is still trying to dissuade Purvi from falling into Arjun's pretense. She believes that Purvi is not sensible enough to see that Arjun is playing with her life and will eventually cheat her once he is though playing slumdog millionaire. She gave him four days? Such a meager timeframe? She can see their determination but doesn't believe in it. The dawning of the Age of Aquarius is almost upon her though and very soon she will realize, with shock and awe, that these two refuse to be separated. I have a sneaking suspicion that there will most certainly be some high life changing drama involved to usher in this change.Anyway, (atleaast for me), hope springs eternal so I am waiting and watching ' as they say!LaurieP.S. I could not stop smiling at the Romance a la the 1960s moment. It was really precious and I found myself asking, "where can I get some of that?" ☺️P.P.S. I found some inspiration for the Raging Storm so let's see what comes of this 😃
