IMO if any bangali singer wants to get successful in Bollywood they must be born and raised outside bangal in another Indian provence because they have prononciation problem. They need to work on their Hindi language. I think both Shreya and Alka did their schooling outside bangal.
Ignorance is not good bt being proud abt those ignorance is worst...frm ur last sentence it is clear that ur not only ignorant how much jealous u r...
Jasji, I have followed your posts and do understand your feelings and where your comments are coming from. However, there are a very few other members on India Forums who start seemingly harmless discussions opening up grounds for bashing Bengalis. And the same people have been doing it historically in other reality shows as well. You will never see such special topics opened for Punjabis, Gujaratis, Marathis etc. So adverse reactions in this matter is expected. In fact, I was happy that there are no contestants from Bengal in II this year hoping that we would be spared from this bashing on the forum. But no, such topics have to be opened under some pretext or other. I can only attribute this behaviour to jealousy caused by the fact that maybe historically one of their favorites lost out to a Bengali contestant in some past show, or some Bengali contestant may have had more support than their favorites. Anyways, I prefer to ignore such people.
I have no such hard feelings about you or your posts. So I would like to reply to you. Alka Yagnik is actually a Gujarati who grew up in Kolkata. So she speaks fluent Bengali. Same goes for Usha Uthup and Kavita Krishnamurthy. They grew up in West Bengal, but are not Bengalis. But they speak fluent Bengali.
Some of the Bengali playback singers who have made a name in Bollywood are:
Geeta Dutt, Pankaj Mullick, Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar, Amit Kumar, Kumar Sanu, Babul Supriyo, Shaan, Abhijeet, Anup Ghosal - the singer of 'Tujhse naraaz nahi' from 'Masoom', Aarati Mukherjee - the singer of 'Do Naina ek Kahani' from 'Masoom', Chitra Singh (Jagjit Singh's wife)
Adding to the list of pakhim above, another singer of recent times is Soham Chakravarty who sang In Dino from Life in a Metro.
These days there are so many singers. Most of them sing 2 or three songs and disappear. Except for a few like Sonu, Shreya, Sunidhi, KK, Shaan and some sufi singers from Pakistan, nobody has really made a name in Bollywood. Most of the good singers are singing down South in the South film industry or in the Bengal film industry, and our reality show singers are getting plenty of opportunities to sing there.
