Rockstar or Rock on??

Which one was better? I am comparing both these films because both films were about rock musicians. So based on direction, performance, music etc. etc. which film you think was better/

IMO, Rock on! was the better film. The music suited the film and after a long time I really enjoyed hindhi rock music. On the other hand the music of Rockstar was disappointing, which was the most integral part of the film. I feel AR Rahman did not do justice. The film also was too melodramatic for me! Narghis was annoying and looked so fake, I feel there should had been a more stronger female lead.

Among performances no doubt Ranbir was gr8 but the film was a total let down for me! Whereas Rock on had decent performances from all the cast. Purab, Shahana, Farhan, Arjun, Luke and Prachi were all fab and believable!

Just because the two protagonists in Rock On and Rockstar were rock musicians does not make the movies in any way similar...they were not even in the same genre! For e.g. Rockstar was at heart a love story...a take off on the legendary Heer Ranjha actually which most viewers did not catch.

I enjoyed both movies for completely different reasons. A bit of a better handle on the story and screenplay would have taken Rockstar from good to genius! Do read the following articles/reviews on Rockstar!

Rock on was better than Rockstar though Songs both movies have great.

But m not sure u can really compare these 2 flicks..The had v different themes ..As the other poster said Rockstar was more of a lovestory with rock music as backdrop..Ranbir is anyday a better actor than farhan and arjun rampal combined..ARR's music was soul stirring..There is no comparison as far as songs and main lead's performance are concerned(imo)..Rock On had a huge wannabe vibe to it but i never had great expectaions from the movie..it was an average fare..But i had like humongous expectations from Rockstar after promos ,initial critics reviews and was hugely let down by bizzare script and direction..And yea Nargis couldnt act to save her life though she looked gorgeous through out the movie..I dont think i would be excited for an Imtiaz Ali movie ever again..Rock on director Abhishek kapoor's next flick is with telly actor Sushant..not really looking forward to that one too.

Rock On at least TRIED to portray the Rock genre correctly while Rockstar made a complete mockery of the entire genre. I especially disliked how Jordan's character was supposedly a "tribute" to Jimi Hendrix. Yeah right...more like a caricature. While, Rock On was quite wannabe as well, at least it tried to do some justice to what the genre stands up for. Rockstar never even bothered. Not sure how they even dared to pass it off like some great film on rock music.
