In my many ruminations about Arjun this weekend, I've come to the conclusion that this is a new beginning for Pavitra Rishta. It is a rebirth of the struggles of a man to win the right to marry the woman he loves.

We know that the story of Manav and Archana will come to a head in the next coming months but what then? Where do they go once reunited? Who takes the wheel and steers the ship? The obvious guess is Arjun and Purvi.

The CVs are doing an excellent job of having Arjun reinvent himself at this juncture for it creates dimensions, not only in his character, but in the story as a whole.

Aashana's hopes for her son fulfilled by Archana's demands reminds me of the Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman,

"Not I, nor anyone else can travel that road for you. You must travel it by yourself. It is not far. It is within reach. Perhaps you have been on it since you were born, and did not know."

This evolution gives Arjun the ability to come into his own and give us, the audience, the sheer delight in watching a prince, that renounced his birthright, overcome adversities all in the name of love. Struggle he will, for if it is a feat accomplished easily we will not believe that he truly deserves it.

He surely is on a mission - to find himself, to prove to the naysayers that he is worthy and capable (Archana/Manav etc.), to earn a living as dictated by his soon to be mother in law but most importantly to prove to himself that he can, in fact, take care of Purvi with his own two hands (so to speak).

We will cheer him on to win the hearts and minds of those who shunned him, who will try to manipulate/deceive him and conquer those rebuked his love for a simple girl who gave him her heart. We will commiserate with both Arjun and Purvi for the hurdles they have to face and hard decisions they must take.

This is what we need to see for a main character, don't you think? Someone who will be able to dig deep when times get rough and support his family without giving up or giving in to temptation. I think that this track will help Pavitra Rishta certainly cross that 1000 episode mark - IF it is arduously maintained.

Manav and Archana will certainly have their coming days in the spotlight - as I know the show belongs to Archana and her struggles but it will eventually transfigure into that of her children or else it will come to a tragic end.

These twists have certainly proved to be the breath of fresh air that PR needed and all I have to say is, "Welcome to the metamorphosis of Arjun!"

P.S. A few words to Ovi... My dear, in the words of a man beyond his time, J.R.R. Tolkien "Not all those who wander are lost." 😉 Just wait and watch!

Brilliant post Laurie.

The ARVI brigade will be behind Arjun and Purvi 1000 %. This is not only Arjun's struggle, but Purvi's as well. Hopefully, the CVs will show us Purvi coming into her own and facing her aai and the Deshmukh clan for her love, just as Arjun did for her.

Laurie, awesome as always.. you dont know how much i enjoyed the Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman part. perfect. Arjun is definitely on a mission and our Churan (adorable kid) and Purvi will help him along the way. If Churan can show his marketing skill at this age, our Arjun..successful business man will have no problem finding a job or becoming a successful business man without his Kirlosker lastname or credentials. After all Arjun has never lost a deal. 👏👏👏

Laurie, I was about to turn off the iPad, but I am glad I did not without visiting PR forum one more time. Excellent post!!👏👏👏 I know CV trying to create old ArMan days using ArVi, but I hope they do not forget that Arjun has a degree from Canada or I believe from UK as in earlier days of new generation, he was coming back from London after completing his study. He should get a job in a big corporation or start driving cab, make some money start his own small business and grow from there.
From the poll, most of the ArVi fans like "boss" Arjun.😊

Nice post Laurie..

Arjun has step towards his lakshya now.. Just like arjun of mahabharata.. Whose only goal was to hit arrow in fish eye.. Just by looking at the image in water..

Same way is this Arjun now whose goal is something to achieve by his own

Laurie, yaar as always take a bow. You managed to get both Whitman and Tolkien quoted in the same post. WOW!!

I totally agree this is more than a challenge to win Purvi it is a total transformation of Arjun. I hope your optimism about PR is true, That in the end what we are looking at is a strong, principled character. Who acts on what he says.

Dear Laurie,

To quote you back to yourself : Meraviglioso!

I was interested to see the parallelism between this post and that of Archana on my PAP thread. Both highlight the idea of Arjun's new journey being one of both self-discovery and self-transformation.

You have called Arjun "
a prince who has renounced his birthright". Very true. But there was once another (real) prince who also renounced his birthright, and set forth on a far more significant mission, to discover the meaning of human existence. Prince Siddhartha Gautama, later known as the Buddha, the Enlightened One.

If this was not PR, a mediocre TV soap, but a literary offering, there would be another fascinating possibility. That at the end of this voyage of self-discovery and self-transformation (which is, as both Archana and you have underlined, not to convince Archana or to win Purvi, but for himself, to realise his own potential), Arjun might become someone so different from his earlier persona that none of the earlier relationships and bonds survives intact. As it happened with Prince Siddhartha. Rather like his being reborn or, like the Buddha, moving to a different plane. That would be something to see.

Alas, that is moonshine and is never going to happen. So we shall have this almost impossibly good, gentle and unselfish young man slumming it at length, still head over heels in love with his Purvi, who will still be hiding in her
aai's pallav, and only risking an occasional timid peep at her preux chevalier (knight errant). Or so I fear. I hope that she proves me wrong.

As for your most apposite and gentle Tolkien quote for Ovi, I was glad to see it. I hope she finds her own way in the end and gains both contentment and peace of mind.

Shyamala

PS: PR has already crossed 1000 episodes, if I am not wrong. Please do not even contemplate the possibility of another 1000, as you seem to be doing. If you want more of Arjun-Purvi, you can always add more chapters to The Raging Storm!

Arjun-Purvi or no Arjun-Purvi, I am keeping my fingers crossed for PR to be wrapped up by December next. Enough is enough.
