Scene 10

Anandi followed Naina into the Hall. It was quite a huge place. The flashback of her entering into Jetsar Haveli as a child came before her eyes. How she had been totally mesmerized by the beauty and size of it. She smiled to herself but the very next moment her smile faded away as she remembered that she had entered into that house as a balika vadhu.

Neel and Rithul seemed to be in deep conversation with Shiv. Then she saw him leave with them. As soon as he turned his back towards her, she felt restless. She was feeling very awkward.

She remained standing as Shamita, Naina and Shiv's mother sat down on the sofa. They suddenly noticed her standing and Anandi saw Shiv's mother come up to her.

'Beta aayiye aur humaray paas baitiye' she said kindly

'aap ithna sankoch kiyun ker rahi hain! aap humari mehmaan hai lekin yahan per mehmaanon ko bhi apnon sa mana jatha hai' She continued sweetly

'aayiye-she said and took Anandi by hand and made her sit besides her.

Anandi noticed that she was the only one with ghunghat on. Naina smiled at her and then slapped her forehead

'dekhiye ma' main bhi na…

maaf kerna Anandi main abhi jal paan ka intezaam kerthi hun' she said getting up

'Nahi, iski koi zaroorat nahi hai' said Anandi meekly, smiling

Just then she saw shiv coming back and his eyes lit up seeing Anandi and his mother together.

'Shiv jaker muh haath dho lo, abhi thoday hi samay main dho-pahar ka khana lag jayega aur hum sabh milker, khana khaengay' Said Shiv's mother.

'ma papa nahi nazar aa rahe?' he asked questioningly as he sat opposite to Anandi and his mother's sofa

'Voh aathay hi hongay' she said

'Aur anandi, aap kay ghar per kithnay log hain? she asked

'Ji , Ma, Bapusa, Tausa, Taiji , unka beta Nandu aur dadisa' Replied Anandi

'Acha!'

Just then Shiv's phone rang.

Hello, Yes sir. We are here. Yes she has reached with me as well. Ok one min hold on please

Anandi ji Sir, aapsey baat kerna chahthay hain, ye lijiye.

Anandi took the phone

'Hello, ji. Nahi koi takleef nahi hui thank you.

Ji hum yahan per sari tayyiyarion kay saath aayin hain. Ji Saray gaon walon nay apnay apnay kagzaat pesh ker diye hain. Unkay dastakhon kay saath.

meray khayal main abh koi aur baadha nahi aayegi'

Ji collector sahab kay saat main teek shayam 5:00 bajay pahunch jaungi.

She hung up the phone. Shiv looked at her as if to ask her what the conversation was about,

Collector sahab, Sir nay zameen kay kagzaat kay baray main pucha tha. Maine voh file apnay luggage main rakhi hai. aap Please mujhe batadijiye ki voh kahan hai. Main chahthi hun ki un filon ko main apnay paas hi rakhun. Main kisi kay amanat kay saat koi bhi laparwahi nahi bardash ker sakthi.

She said firmly.

Anandi did not notice but Shiv's mother, Shamita and Naina were looking at her as if they had not seen anyone like her before.

'Shiv bhaiyya ye tho aapsey bhi zyada kadak lagthi hai' said Naina laughing.

Anandi suddenly became aware of her surroundings and turned slightly pink.

Shiv gave his bhabi a huge smile and declared that he wanted to go to his room and change. Naina took Anandi to the room where she would be staying.

Anandi entered into the rom. The fragrance of freshly pricked folwoers came gushing forth as the room door was opened. Every inch of the room was clamored luxury. There were expensive art that glorified the walls, brightly lit chandelier and comfortable leather couches that stood alone in the corner.

Anandi noticed that her bag was placed near the bed.

'Is closet main apnay kapde rakh lena aur kisi bhi cheez ki zaroorat ho tho please bina sankoch kay mujhe bata dena' Said naina.

She then pointed to the left end corner of the room 'ye bathroom hai, thum fresh ho jao aur thodi hi dair main khana lag jayega' said naina. She then walked out of the room.

Anandi closed the door and glanced at the room. She went towards the balcony and took a deep breath of fresh air. The green luscious garden became visible as came closer towards the balcony railing. On her right she noticed beautiful indoor plants that seemed to crawl up from the bottom.

She put her hands on the railing and looked at the garden. She noticed that it had beautiful flowers blooming. A smile formed on her face as the sight of this natural beauty calmed her mind. She looked down and noticed someone standing at the balcony right below her.

She realized it was shiv. He was also looking at the garden, enjoying its beauty.

Anandi did not feel like making her presence known, so she quickly turned around and went inside the room.

It was around 2:30 in the afternoon.

Anandi followed Naina who had come upstairs to take Anandi into the Dining room. The room was towards the right of the living room. It was smaller than the living room and had a long rectangular dining table with chairs all around it.

Anandi saw shiv's mother and Shiv's Chachi (Shamita) preparing the table. Anandi immediately went up to them and offered to help.

'nahi beta, aap jaker baitiye' said Shiv's mother

Anandi stood there looking at them, feeling quite restless. She was never used to not work.

Soon Shiv, Rithul and Neel Chachu entered through the arched door way.

'mmm wow mom! ithni saari dishes! I am sure saray meray pasand ke dishes hongay' said shiv smacking his lips and quickly taking his seat.

He then noticed Anandi standing

'Anandi ji aayiye , please baitiye na' He said offering the seat opposite to his side of the table'

Anandi continued to hesitate and only when Naina had literally forced her to sit she sat down.

Naina sat besides Anandi, and Shiv's mother besides Shiv.

Shamita took the seat opposite to Rithul who was sitting near Naina and Neel finally sat on one end of the table which looked like the head of the table, or not, as there was another table at the other end.

Neel 'ye aaye nahi abhi tak, phone tho lagao unko' Said shiv's mom

'bhabhi, bhaiyyah sey abhi baat hui hai voh athay hi hongay. Office sey nikal chukay hain' said Neel.

'Acha teekh hai' she said and started to tell everyone to serve the food. Anandi remembered how shiv had said earlier that he liked everyone eating together. She understood how this was their homely tradition.

Naina served Anandi and placed various dishes in the small containers in her plate.

'Nainaji bas, main ithna nahi kha sakthi.' Said Anandi as she tried to stop Naina from placing more food in her place.

'Anandiji, meri bhabhi khana bohot acha banathi hai. Aapko bohot pasand aayega' said shiv

'WOW mom! halwa , sangiri ki sabzi! kadi! ghatte ki sabzi ye sabh tho meri pasand kay hai' said shiv excitedly

'Han bhai, aaj tho aapkay hi pasand ka khana banega. Mujhe kon puchtha hai yahan. Meri biwi meray paas hai aur inko humari khabar hi nahi' said Rithul putting up a puppy face

'Koi baat nahi beta main huna, ye lo' said Shiv's mother as she placed 2 pooris in Rithul's plate

Sachi Tayiji, agar aap nahi hothi na, pata nahi mera kya hotha. Main tho soookh ker patha ban gaya hotha abh tak' continued Rithul pulling up a sad face.

'Batay bana-na aapsey koi seekhay' said Naina and Anandi saw everyone laughing at Rithul's tactics.

'Dolly kahan hai?' asked Shiv looking at Rithul and Naina

'school main. thodi dair main aa jayegi' replied naina

'Ikshu aur ishika?' he asked his mother

'College main hai shiv' she said shaking her head.

'are han! .. tch, … teekh hai shayam tak tho aa jayengay na' tab bohot masti karengay' He said excited.

'Bhabi aap bhi kha lijiye bhaiyyah aa jayengay' said neel with concern.

'Aap ko tho pata hai ki bhabhi, Jhet ji kay bina tho khanay sey rahin' Said shamita smiling.

Everyone continued eating:

Anandi looked at shiv and thought about the names he had just mentioned. Dolly seemed to be Naina and Rithul's daughter but who was this Ikshu and Ishika?

Shiv did have a large family and her heart felt warm looking at the love between them.

'mmm yumm mom! kya sangiri ki sabzi banayi hai! he said licking his fingers!

'Han kafi dinon kay baad kha rahe ho na thum' said shiv's mother lovingly

'Nahi mom, maine Anandiji kay ghar per khaya tha! Voh bhi bohot acha banathi hain. Khatay hi aapki yaad aa gayi' Said shiv reminiscing the haveli dawat.

'Acha! said Shiv's mother in surprise.

'Anandji bohot acha khana banati hain. Mujhe inki dadisa nay dawat per bulaya tha! said shiv

Anandi looked embarrassed.

'Acha Anandi!' asked Naina

'Vaise agar shiv bhaiyyah nay thumharay khanay ki tareef ki hai tho waqay main hi achi hogi! , kiyunki humaray shiv bhaiyyah ko impress kerna aur voh bhi khanay main! ye tho almost na mumkin si baat hai' Said Naina.

'Shiv's mother, shamita and Naina continued to look at Anandi with a smile on their face.

Anandi smiled back hesitatingly, and continued to eat her lunch in silence.

Scene 11

Everyone had almost finished their lunch when they heard a honk.

'Lagta hai papa aa gaye' said shiv excitedly

'HANSA! HANSA! ' called out a think male voice!

'Ji! said shiv's mom getting up hurriedly

Shiv's father appeared in the room. His face had the brightness of a moon and the twinkle in his eye helped bring out his kind face.

'Papa! said Shiv as he hugged his father.

Anandi had gotten up as well. She felt that it was rude of her to sit down while Shiv's father was present. After all she was grown up in a completely different household. To sit and eat with everyone was in and of itself making her very uncomfortable.

'Kaisa hai mera beta' said Hasit, Shiv's father

'Bilkul teekh hun papa' said shiv

Anandi noticed tears in his eyes.

Hasit looked at his son's face for a whole minute before realizing that shiv was in the middle of his lunch.

everyone around them were looking at the father and son union that they had forgotten the presence of Anandi until Hasit noticed her.

'aap?' he asked,

suddenly the entire room became aware of her existence as if for the first time.

'Oh, so sorry Anandi ji' said Shiv in an apologetic tone.

'Han beta soo sorry' said Neel.

'Please aap bait jayiye' Said Hasit now who looked a little embarrassed as well.

'Papa ye Anandiji hai , meray saat aayi hain jetsar sey. Jetsar ki Sarpanch' He added

'Accha achha , please aap continue kariye, main abhi aatha hun' He then looked at Hansa (shiv's mother) and indicated her to follow him.

'Main abhi aayi' said Hansa out loud and followed Hasit.

'So Anandi ji chalain. Humay 5;00 tak office pohunchna hai' He added looking at his watch.

'Ji-' said Anandi and silently followed Naina as she led her to the washroom.

Anandi then went back into the room where she was staying and took out the required files from her suitcase.

she quickly glanced over them and made sure if everything that was needed and required was present. Then she quickly came down the stairs and went into the living room and found shiv standing. He was looking over some papers as well.

chalain Anandi ji? he said

'Han lekin pehlay aapki ma ko tho bata dain' She said

Shiv had forgotten that he had to inform his parents before leaving. It had been too long since he was living alone that he had gotten out of the habbit of informing anyone. He smiled at Anandi and appreciated her presence of mind.

'Ma! ' he called out

Hansa appeared in the living room after few seconds.

He then told her that they were leaving

"Ghani khamma' Said Anandi

'KHamma ghani said Hansa smiling broadly at her. It had been a while since someone had used pure rajasthani way of greetings with her.

She then watched Shiv and Anandi leave the house in silence.

Anandi and Shiv reached the office together. After introducing her to the officers board, they went to the conference hall. Shiv was asked to give a small presentation about the Jetsar-Nehar Project and with the help of Anandi they were able to complete the meeting with success.

It was 6:30 PM. Shiv and Anandi returned home and found Hansa waiting for them in the living room.

Shiv had already informed them when they left the conference building.

Hansa invited Anandi to sit besides her and called for tea for Shiv and her.

"Chachu ..Chachu.. Chachu'' came the voice of a little girl. She ran and sprang herself towards Shiv.

"meri gudiya, kaise ho thum?!' asked shiv.

'Chachu, maine aapko bohot miss kiya' she replied while putting her arms around shiv's neck.

'Of course main aapka favorite chachu jo hun. AUr pata hai maine apni gudiya rani ke liye bohot saray gifts bhi laker rakhe hain' he said smiling and ticking her stomach with his index finger.

Dolly got off him and looked at Anandi.

'hello she said' putting her hand forward towards Anandi

'Anandi sweetly took her hand and shook it'

'Mera naam Dolly hai' aur aapka?

'Anandi' said anandi smiling at her innocent face.

'Aap chachu ki dost ho?' she enquired

Anandi smiled her and remained silent not knowing what to reply.

'Then she nodded and said

'Han'

Shiv looked at Anandi with a wide smile on his face

'aa gaye aap bhaiyyah, chaliye haat muh dho lijiye. Main Dinner ka intezaam kernay hi wali hun' said Naina

Anandi went up to Naina and said

'Main bhi aapkay saath chalungi aur please aap is dafa mana math kijiyega. Mujhe kamray main akele baitnay ki aur bina kaam kiye rehnay ki adat nahi hai' She pleaded

'Teekh hai, jaise thumhari merzi' said Naina.

Anandi went to the washroom to freshen up and then Naina into the kitchen. Hansa had also followed them.

As she walked into the kitchen she noticed that it was very much like her own haveli's kitchen but equipped with more electrical gadjets.

Naina ji, batayiye kiya kerna hai. She asked

'Kuch nahi Anandi, sara kaam khatm ho chukka hai, hmm bas chonka lagana hai daal ko, rotiyan bana-na aur salad katna hai' Taki garam ho na khana.

'Are anandi beta thum aa gayi'

Shamita had just joined the ladies in the kitchen.

'Bhabi rotian bana-na shuru kerthay hain. She said

Hansa took out the salad materials from the kitchen and started to place them in the washing bowl.

'Anandi looked at Shivs mom wanting to help her. Naina noticed that

'Anandi Taiji ker lengi.

'Lekin..' Anandi was feeling bad and her hesitation was clearly visible in face.

'Acha teekh hai , roti sekh do meray liye' said Naina..

'More than happy to get some kind of work , Anandi went towards naina and moved her aside and took over the responsibility of making the roties.

'are Anandi main sekh nay ko kaha tha, bana-nay ko nahi! said Naina desperately.

'aap na dusray kaam dekh lijiye main ye kar lungi' said Anandi

'Lekin Anandi humaray ghar main 10 logon ke liye roti banthi. Thum akele kaise banaogi?' She laughed.

'Anandi smiled at her and said, mujeh adat hai' and she started.

The speed at which Anandi was working, shocked everyone in the room. They themselves were used to cook for a large family but the way Anandi was working, it left them flabbergasted.

With in 25 minutes Anandi managed to prepare 40 Roties. Not just any but thin, large and fluffy ones.

'acha isiliye thumnay mujhe side per honay ko kaha' said Naina

'wow ma, main tho ithni speed main akele kabhi bana nahi sakthi' she said to Shamita

Anandi smiled at their reaction. It was not a big deal for her to cook. She had been cooking all her life since she was 8 years old. She remembered how Dadisa made her learn to make Halwa for the very first time.

The dinner was very much similar to that of lunch. They pretty much sat in the same position as they had done earlier except that now Hasit (Shiv's father) and Dolly had joined the table.

Ikshu aur Ishika abhi tak nahi aaye, asked Shiv in a concerned voice.

'Aaj voh log unkay dost ke ghar gaye hain, kaafi dinon sey program tha. Unko nahi pata tha na kit hum aa rahe ho warna cancel ker dethe. Subah koshih bhi ki thi lekin nahi ho paya.' Said Hansa in a worried tone.

'Ithni dair tak bahar rehnay ki kya zaroorat hai ma, aap mana ker dethin' said shiv, a bit irritated.

'abhi aathay hongay Shiv, fikr mat karo' Said hansa not looking quite into Shiv's eyes while saying that.

Shiv looked at his mother. He knew that something was not right.

'Ma unhay phone lagayiye, mujhe baat kerni hai'

as soon as he said that, his phone rang

'Hello ' said shiv a bit angrily

'oh Sorry ashi! main.. voh.. ' he said trying to smile

'han pahunch gaye. Thumhay kaise pata?'

'acha mom nay bataya hai' hmm he said smiling at his mother

'Guess what Ashi, Anandi ji bhi meray saath aayi hain' he said excitedly

'han.. yes ! '

'Ye lo!

Anandi ji Ashi aapsey baat kerna chahthi hai

Anandi took the phone from Shiv.

'Ashima ji kaise hain aap?' she said sweetly

'Ji kuch meetings thay , isiliye aaye hain'

'Dinner kernay baite hain'

'teek hai'

ye lijiey said Anandi handing the phone back to shiv

'kya hua/?'

'kab, teekh hai aa jayengay'

'ok bye' said shiv

'Ashi nay kaha hain ki aaj raath ko skype per hum sabh aaye. Voh hum sabsey baat kerna chahthi hai, now specially jo Anandi ji yahan per hain.

Pata hai, Ashi aur Anandi ki dosti Jetser main hui thi. Voh tho full time fan hai Anandi ji ki

'Aur thum?' whispered Rithul

Shiv looked shocked at his brothers sudden statement and coughed

Naina who was sitting besides him started to giggle. It was clear that she had heard her husband's remark towards shiv!

Hansa started to serve her husband and Shamita followed the lead. They started to eat and became engrossed in conversation.
