While we're at it, there's a good deal of violence depicted in Tom & Jerry cartoons. I guess those should be banned as well? (As an aside, certain episodes of animated shows have indeed be banned because of allegedly portraying "terrorist" themes.)
I'd like the authors of these articles to lucidly describe what exactly are the "wrong ideas" that they have a problem with. Like has already been said, the question isn't if a gun is good or bad - the question is whose hand it's being held by. It is lethal in the hands of a criminal, child or emotional teenager. That doesn't make the gun evil, but that does demand greater responsibility from the authorities and society to spread education and awareness about ethics, humanity and law, about how an instrument of such power should be used. The same gun can be used for genuine self-defense, saving an innocent life or even a harmless sport.
I won't be surprised if some mentally disturbed person happens to say he was inspired by a T&J episode to slice somebody in half. For how long are people going to continue pushing the blame on others and overlook what they themselves should've done? If these fellas list all the self-defense seminars, criminal psychology courses, humane services or people-skills' development workshops (aka, things helping combat crime - which ironically is exactly what our shows attempt to do) they have been working with, I'm willing to debate further. Otherwise, I find this entire claim spurious.
