Box Office Collection: Shanghai steady, Rowdy Rathore rocks

Mumbai, Jun 16 (TruthDive): While Shanghai, Dibakar Banerjee's film has received mixed response, viewers continued to support Akshay Kumar starrer movie Rowdy Rathore in its 2nd weekend.

Akshay Kumar has scored his second century for this year after the new movie Rowdy Rathore reached '100 crore mark'. Kumar's Housefull 2 also attained the distinction for this year.

UTV statement said with Rowdy Rathore after collecting 21.9 crore in its second weekend has entered the 100 crore club making its total collection'101.42 crore'. Last Thursday Rowdy Rathore's collection was 79.52. On Friday it added 5.1 crore to the kitty, on Saturday 6.3 crore and on Sunday 10.5 crore.

Amod Mehra, trade analyst said that the movie had strong principles ever since it release on 1st June. The film is still running strong at most of the centres in the country.

In the meantime, Shanghai Dibakar Banerjee's movie has received mixed box-office responses. Trade analysts told the film's performance at box-office was low.

Taran Adarsh, trade analyst stated on his Twitter profile, Shanghai had a slow start, but showed respectable growth on Saturday, Sunday at high end multiplexes. The overall collection is estimated to be below the mark.

Trade sources say the collection was 3.35 crore on Friday, on Saturday 4.25 crore and on Sunday 4.5 crore, with three-day total 12.1 crore.

President of PVR Pictures, Kamal Gianchandani who produced the film said the production cost of the film was 19 crore including marketing and said the movie would be positive for production house.

Trade analysts confirmed Shanghai was patronised only by A centre multiplexes.

Gianchandani said single screens also recorded good collection at the weekend. Positive reviews and mouth word publicity increased Shanghai collection to 75% on Sunday after its release on Friday. And the film will surely see a long run and expected to see strong this week too.

Mehra said Shanghai's box office collections dropped severely on Monday, but still trade analysts expect Rowdy Rathore's to do well at the box office.

it is funny TA who coimpplained about shanghai opening low and yet he is GUNBG HO about FKS opening and both m,ovie opened at sam epercentage

yet TA sho entaiusm already movie will make money??

yet he ignored tha fact shanghai also piking up on weekend

and every movie has downtrend for weekdays yet shanghai downtrend was loewer than big films

i wonder how much VVC payed TA for FKS

FERRARI is fine & SHANGHAI safe, while ROWDY roars!

This week's premier release, Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Sharman-Boman starrer, FERRARI KI SAWAARI, was never going to emulate the opening of a DABANGG or a ROWDY RATHORE, but was expected to fare well at good multiplexes. And it has!

As per first day reports FERRARI KI SAWAARI saw a 20-30 percent start at the metro multiplexes, with the occupancies being better in the Mumbai-Maharashtra and Gujarat belt, thanks to the local flavours.

However, the cricket laced emotional drama failed to entice the single screen audience and even the multiplexes of other major and midsized towns. The film will have to depend on the business during the next two days, and a noticeable growth (especially on Sunday) will augur well for the Rajesh Mapuskar directed film!

As far as the other releases of the week are concerned, namely QASAM SE QASAM SE and CHAKRADHAAR, the two were never going to achieve anything in the first place, and so there are no prizes for guessing correctly that both have been rejected from the first show itself.

Meanwhile, Dibakar Banerjee's Emraan, Abhay, Pitobash and Kalki starrer, SHANGHAI, managed stable business at the mid-end during the weekdays, and ended up netting a satisfactory 17 crores (to be validated) during the first week. Given the reasonable costs and non-theatrical rights, SHANGHAI is already an average fare, and with some luck may improve further.

In the end, quite on the expected and predictable lines, Akshay Kumar's ROWDY RATHORE continues to dominate the box-office, with a rock steady second week haul of 35 crore plus! The film has netted 113 crores (to be validated) in two weeks from India and is already a super hit. The film is likely to dominate the proceedings once again in the current week, and is all set to be Akshay Kumar's first solo blockbuster!

😊😊Liked it! This movie is really different from that stereotyped masala movies of Bollywood. Showed the realistic things! Watched it at Wave, Rajouri.The acting part was amazing. Although some part of me felt that Abhay Deol wasn't meant for that role. But overall it was good.😊
