MUMBAI: The results of the drug tests of 46 of 92 people detained at a Juhu 'rave party' last month have come in. Not one person has tested positive for cocaine although an overwhelming majority (44) have tested positive for cannabis and popular party drug MDMA aka Sizzler.
Police commissioner Arup Patnaik on Friday released the blood test results of the 92 who were detained after a bust at Oakwood Premier. Police said that those who tested positive would be arrested for consuming drugs under the NDPS Act.
Actor Apurva Agnihotri has tested positive for both cannabis and MDMA.
He and his wife Shilpa Saklani had attended the party but claimed to the media that they had not consumed drugs. Police said that they are awaiting Shilpa's test reports. The reports of two IPL players, Rahul Sharma and Wayne Parnell, are not yet out.
MDMA, or methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine, is a psychotropic substance known to induce mental and physical euphoria.
A majority of the 44 (27) tested positive only for cannabis. One of the 44 tested positive only for Sizzler and the remaining 16 tested positive for both cannabis and Sizzler. Police said that they are awaiting tests reports to confirm if the 110gm of drug seized was cocaine.
On May 20, a special team led by additional commissioner of police Vishwas Nangre Patil had raided Oakwood Premier service apartments and claimed to have recovered 110gm of cocaine from the rooftop.
Police detained 92 people, including foreigners, who had gathered for a sundown party and sent them for medical tests at Cooper, Bhabha and JJ hospitals. The results made available on Friday were those of the participants whose blood and urine samples were collected at Cooper Hospital. The other reports will take some time, the police said.
Police had arrested Oakwood owner Vishay Handa under the NDPS Act for letting out his premises for a drug party. Handa had sent out the invites and was present at the party. He was arrested on May 21 and a court released him on bail 12 days later.
Of the 4,000 tracks recovered from the party, 95% was of trance music, Patnaik said.
