and if a person"X" believes in "M".. then what do we get by choosing him to Debate Against "M" and in favor of "N".. ? My suggestion is,, it is better if 10-15 topics are posted here.. and it shud be left on ppl.. who wants to debate for which topic n at which side. "first come first served. "

that's the challenge isn't it? to be randomly assigned a side you don't necessarily believe in and argue in its favour.

it may be a little more difficult, but you actually step into the other person's shoes and understand their POV. obviously person X will try to prove certain facts wrong - thats the entire point of the debate. but, is he/she able to do so convincingly? is it the fact that only we are looking at the topic in one way which we think is right?

if we leave it upto the people to pick sides, a lot might just pick one side - no one would pick the opposing side at all. that way, an interesting topic would be just set aside due to lack of debators.

also, when it comes to voting - does it MATTER what person X believes in as long as the arguments he/she presents are clear and convincing? though, in this case, i feel that most people vote for the side they believe in and dont even read the arguments. i think voting should change to a panel of impartial judges.
