The film is an adult film.It is not a family film.So it was not telecast in TV because kids have the flexibility to watch TV anytime.Though many adult adds keep on airing on TV.So I feel it was hypocrisy not to telecast TDP on TV.

Remember this film is based on the life of Silk Smitha.She was known for her vulgar,cheap and sexy acts.So Vidya needed to wear revealing clothes and use dirty dialogues.You can not expect her to wear a Burqa in this movie.Her role was not of a shy,innocent girl.She did what her role demanded.
TDP needed to have some sex scenes and vulgar dialogues.It was about the dirty side of Film industry.Atleast TDP was not like Dabang or K3G.These films are supposed to be family films.But "Munni Badnam Huyi" and "First scene of Kareena" were put in to family entertainment to earn more bucks.

To answer your question, the music (Oh La La) and the promo, plus right timing (no good movies were coming out at that time) and of course the acting of everyone in the cast. It also helped that it was a bold film.

Anyways, coming back to your question, my knowledge about movies is limited to what I see on the screen. Sometimes I don't even recognize who the actors are, but I still watch and add those movies to my fave list if I find them interesting.

I liked Dirty Picture, and not bcoz it was Vidya Balan or N.Shah or anyone, but more bcoz I liked the story. Only complaint I've from the movie is, that it din't do enough justice to Silk Smita... If a producer is trying to cash-in on someone's story (howmuchever they deny it), then they should also try giving them that credit. She did have some character roles to her credit, before she turned into a full-fledged item girl. Well whatever, there go my two cents 😆

ps - I don't know who charges how much. All I know is, that I pay up my $12-$15(at times more) to go and watch the movie, and I have no complaints ever when I walk out of a theatre 😃

i like vidhya better than others but didnt like TDP much , i think it took a one dimensional look at silks life which is not fair , she is much much more than what they have portrayed & just failed to catch what a great person she was . She never looked vulgar however outrageously she dressed but VB did look vulgar at places . Silks life is worth than a movie

All said & done nobody except VB couldve pulled it off
