as i grew up, i ignored their compliments because, it's their perspective of how I look, so... whatever! Infact, I'd say i get turned off when someone say i look like so-and-so, idk why..

Thank You! I was waiting for someone to say what you did.

I've seen so many people who get excited, or well, feel happy about being compared to celebrities, while frown upon a comparison made with their siblings or the like. However, I personally get angry when I am compared to a celebrity. Yes, she is famous and I guess not bad looking but why the comparison? I often have to retaliate back with, "Excuse me! NO, I do not look like her, perhaps she looks like me", to which I always get a weird and confused look back. I don't like comparisons in general, be it with a sibling or a celebrity as I feel a part of me looses it's actual essence.

Ego is comparison? I don't understand you. A person can have an alter ego, but how is your self ego a comparison of another human being? If if if, You think yourself more beautiful/intelligent/smart/jackass/looklike,blah blah than the other. Then you are bringing ego in😃

Yes, everyone is unique, but comparison is a norm, a human nature one cannot ignore just because "everyone is unique". I believe If you stop comparing then you are tremendously beautiful and unique...why should we compare, if you love urself, respect urself...then no need to compare with other ppls..

^ Agree, the ego wants to be number one; therefore, it has no choice but to get caught up in a never-ending game of comparing itself to others...

Celebrity comparison comes with a tag line..."what you see isn't what you get"

isn't your look part of your own identity though? your right...its just a part of it...not your whole identity...identity means a persons personality..how he/she is individually, his/her nature, qualities etc. whereas with celebrities you are just comparing looks and its not even comparing its just that you find some people having similar looks as that of a celeb not saying that you are like that celeb... so how does that affect your identity? you can have similar face structure or some features matching but you cant have the same face or personality, so how can you feel you dont have an identity? a persons looks alone does not make his/her identity..its the whole thing, your nature, your preferences and everything that you are...

So again, it makes me wonder why people are not ok with being compared to their siblings but readily accept the comparison made with famous celebrities/actors. Is it because they are famous? ofcourse not...let me explain my part, i have a twin sister and during our childhood we were constantly being compared for one thing or the other, if one was good the other was expected to do the same, people just assumed we will have same preferences, same nature and everything same just because we are sisters and that too twins...but its not like that...we both are totally different...infact forget twins...siblings of any age are being compared by their parents... the parents can sometimes expect one kid to be like another maybe because he/she is good in something...so that is what people do not like when others dont accept you for what you are but expect you to be like someone else... when they want you to change yourself to be something better..

Isn't a part of your own self identity lost somewhere when one says, "Star_On_earth looks like Katrina". It's like now your whole outter self has been associated to the actress, Katrina. It takes away from who you really are, at least to some extent IMO. no i dont think so... infact i have been compared to katrina, actually i wouldnt call it comparing, i just got a comment that i looked like her...so its not like i am like katrina...it only means i could be having some features like her or maybe on that particular day my hairstyle or something or the other reminded that person of katrina somewhere...so thats it... its not like i start thinking that i am katrina and my whole self is lost somewhere... besides it was only that one person who thought so...while others may not agree with him...so why for only one person's comment/compliment... i let my identity be affected? i took it as a compliment and was happy about it..and thats it.. finish! such comparisons dont affect in anything i do...but comparisons with sibling/friends do affect because people want you to do somethings like others do it... because you stay with your siblings, you are constantly around them and then everything you do is being compared, but with celebrities...you are being compared once and then you forget about it the next day...
