Hi guys since this is a extra smart MIL serial. I wanted to open a thread where we could share our MIL funny stories without badmouthing them. Litte vignettes that have happened over time.
I have three:

Once my MIL scrubbed off the black nonstick coating of my pan and showed it around saying the pan was dirty and she cleaned it so well now😆😆

Second, once my MIL in the afternoon told me she is not hungry and will just munch something with my daughter, who had just eaten and when my husband returned at night said oh, I am so hungry to my daughter, mumma (me) did not give us anything to eat in the afternoon😕

Then once MIL while we were discussing says oh, she keeps my son up (my husband would come at 10) gives him dinner and talks to him instead of letting him sleep 😕.

Thankfully, my husband knows his mother and really does not get affected by such talk.

Any funny, crazy stories you guys have. Lets share, why MIL are MILs. My MIL is a well meaning lady mostly but I think is just doing her duty of being an MIL sometimes😆😆

In my 11 years of marriage there have been many of these imarti-ambi type incidents. My MIL has been working all her life so has not done much cooking.

Once I made kairi dal, she ate it and says oh, the dal is getting spoiled, it is so khatta and like ambi all I could say was yes, I have made khatti dal, only when I told her that it was raw mango dal and I liked it khatta she discovered that raw mango could be put in dal😆😆

Nice topic...My MIL is very nice 😊 unlike usual MILs she is very sweet and understanding she is highly educated(PHD in economics) but sometimes she behaves really silly 😆

My FIL is diabetic...Somebody advised him to eat Oats for breakfast...She got a packet of quaker oats...but didnt know how to cook it...it was lying with her for few month...then when I went home for vacation I saw the packet and made oats boiled in milk for my FIL...she said oh good u have made it I didnt know how to make oats...I turned the packet and said..it has cooking instructions written on it in fact all pre cooked/ready to eat food items has cooking inctructions printed on it u just have to read it 😃

I dont have funny but mostly irritating and the kind of twisted mental pain inflicting pain stories

For example I cook all the time when MIL visits (because me having 5 mins of rest is too much to bear for her). So, she likes to make me cook full time, but she cannot bear the fact that FIL or DH might like the food,, so 5 mins at everyday dinner table is actually at pointing faults in my food.

For example, she once taunted me for adding pepper to the curry but then she also taunted me when I did not add pepper to the curry. So I get taunts left and right, it need not have a reason.

Another good one, DH gets fresh breakfast in the morning but I never get a single nivala when leaving for work. 😭Thank god for the cafeteria! 😉

She once did not talk to me for 2 days because I said "I would prefer to have a daughter instead of son". (Nothing too surprising considering that this is a norm)😔

She asked me to stop using paper towels for wiping the kitchen, and asked me to use kapda. One fine day I was wiping with the kapda when she shoots up - use the paper towel and not the Kapda 😕

We had some friends visiting over for lunch. She publicly declared that "In my wedding my hair looked the worst and that all women were laughing at me" (She also publicly taunts me about having lice😕 (never encountered them here in US😲) in my hair) The truth being I have long tresses and get complemented for them often even before I got married!

I could go on and on and on but will Gt back to work..

My mil has two sons and I am the younger dil. When she visits us in the US she always compliments my jethani: like she cooks special dishes all the time and how good she cares for her husband and children etc etc. She makes me feel as if I am not doing a good job if I am not standing in the kitchen all the time.
I am not as fair in complexion as my jethani. So that's another taunt I always have to bear. Infact when my son was born, the first question she asked my husband was if the child was fair. She did not even talk to me about my health.
I breastfed my son for 9 months after which ran out of milk. She always made it a point to note that how my jethani and she herself did that for 2 years and how it increases the immunity.
The son vs daughter talks are unbearable to even mention.
Lastly she always tells me not to instigate my husband against his elder brother, but she herself doesn't let her husband talk to his bothers. Double standards at their best!
