I think it was the former and she is gently poking fun of his way of eating mangos for example (without a knife and fork) and other quirks which are Indian in nature which we may not yet have seen but which she is aware of and finds odd. It can also refer to his decision to return to India after completing his studies in London (which she may not have been happy about 😆) .
