The Genesis III: We'll miss you, Sushmita.
" Tune mere haath se janam liya hai, Balraj. Main tere haath se to na marnewaali. "
And she kicked the one leg standing stool herself from under her feet and hung herself to death. Daaimaa , even in her death, was a righteous self respecting woman. For her ,Balli was a baby she brought into this world . Yes, he has grown up to be an evil hedonist who was about to shoot her dead ' but that didn't change the fact that Daaimaa was the one to lift him from Badi Chaudhrain's womb. There was no way Daaimaa would let him cross that line of respect. She made Balli's work easier and hung herself before Balli could shoot her.
It was an awesome episode but what stood out was the entire Balli-Daaimaa- Badi Chaudhrain sequence shot in a temple ( it may even be a set ) that was forsaken by human-being. I won't say God forsaken because God and forsaken are oxymorons that just don't go together. The scene lifted Daaimaa to honour , respect and a dignified death. It was written to show you that how Balli treads the path between evil arrogant courage and the cowardice of a man scared of the future and his yet to be born heiress. The way he behaves like an atheist , challenges and refuses to acknowledge God by committing this heinous crime in a temple. You see a pathological streak in him that is obsessed with the belief that he is all powerful and nothing can destroy him. Yes, he is scared but he is not going to sit curled up in a corner and wait for the doomsday ' he is gonna get up and do a hell lot about it. Raj Zutshi has complete over the spasms of emotions that come and go from his face ' his hold and grip on his expressions is so brilliant that he makes sure that you can see the play of fear and devilry on his face.
Balli's sadist streak comes gushing to the surface as he psychologically tortures Daaimaa simply by his words and a twisted 'nazar utaaro' act . Of course, Daaimaa is beyond fear but she is not untouched by the darkness of Balli. In this whole scene Balli comes across as a powerhungry hound who needs to kill something in someone all the time to have confidence in his authority. He is a man scared of fate but insanely ravaging enough to challenge it. Badi Chaudhrain was a mute spectator to the drama of Daaimaa and Balli , resting like a sadistic queen , cutting supaaris and munching on the same . She is actually a power leviathan whose dark traits only became exponentially compounded in her son who is the activated face of the nascent evil that is inside her.
Coming to Paddy , Trish and Roma , well, Roma is an orange fizz bubble who is needed in Paddy's life , so that she can see the lighter side of life. She has come in like a splash of colour and hope in Paddy's world ' she is a rude awakening to reality who is going to teach Paddy and her daughters that just running away from your problems and putting up a fight is not enough. You always need a Plan B and here P is for 'practical'. Roma tells you in flat 10 minutes that in this life , you have just a few minutes to cry , sob and wallow in self pity ' then, you put a dab of make up , smile , go into lights and say '"Its show time baby." Roma is rude and hard shelled but she has a heart ' a practical heart. She is giving wings to Paddy but has made sure that Paddy learns to fly herself. Roma , in a way, defines LIFE. You just gotta laugh through it all ' the size of your smile is always going to override the speed of your tears. Its for Paddy to see that Roma has not opened the doors of studios - she has pushed her into a life that is at least more respectable than lying under Balli's feet.
As for the last scene, well, it was a typical 1970s intro of a hero or an important do gooder . The man is Shamsher , as in, Roma's brother , most probably. His one-on-one duel with Balli has set the ball rolling for their conflict. Now, there are two walls between Balli and Paddy ' Roma and Shamsher.
P.S- The current cast raises the bar of acting , presence and performance for DVD everyday. Now, that we have seen histrionics of Raj, Shagufta, Sushmita , Pallavi , Rakhi ' our expectations are sky high from DVD. DVD are good actors , no doubt , but I want their acting to have the 'NUANCES' that Raj , Sushmita and Shagufta have. Acting as in acting is one thing. But acting as a CRAFT is a different ballgame altogether and Raj is an excellent example in that.
Love and luck always,❤️
GOD bless everyone. 🤗
