But RTH,there are several proxy server soft wares available by which you can access the websites blocked in your computer. The problem will remain even if someone's IP is banned forever.

I'd ask BTV. He is the only one I know who arranged for a ban for a set time period for his exams and then came back.

Many members get upset or get busy and ask for bans so they stop logging on. Few weeks down the road they change their mind and come back. Other times after many weeks of inactivity people forget their login and make a new one. Usually their friends know who it is. But it also spooks people to find a newbie being so familiar. In these scenarios I think they should request mods to revive the old ID and ban the new ID they made to come back.

I have never received one. I am tempted to start an Ash bash topic just to see what they say. But anyone who sends abusive Pms to me will get their inbox spammed with gay po*n and then be blocked. 😆

You have to be a true salman supporter to get one or say something on aish or the parivaar

Something is better than nothing. Most people use rudimentary proxies and don't have the technical expertise to circumvent proxy blocking. The higher level users will always remain a problem. But as a website takes security seriously, they start developing effectiveness against workarounds as well.

As a popular Indian website,I should say India-Forum really doesn't take security of members seriously unlike other social networking sites.

Rather than creating a new ID to get the old one back, why not simply do through email. You know like a "forgot your password" feature, there could be an option like "request to end self-ban" or something. You select it, confirm your email address (the one that's in your profile) and you will receive a confirmation link in your email. Click on it and voila! You're unbanned.

I don't think there is a set period. It does not get automatically lifted. When a member is banned, its at the discretion of the GM and she is the one who decides on the time period. Many times after couple weeks, the member apologizes and agrees to follow the rules. After that the GM decides if the ban has to be lifted. Before she lifts the ban, she does PM the mods of the concerned section and she does take into consideration what the mods have to say abt the unban. Its only after that she lifts the ban.

In case of self-ban, its the members choice. Members get a self ban and I have got requests after 3 days for an unban.
Many times they take longer breaks for exams, personal reasons. When they are ready to come back they either make a new ID to get in touch with us or they ask a friend to convey the message to us. Once we get the request we forword that to the GM and she immediately lifts the ban.

Can't the newbie just state who they are. As long as mods know and members I think it be okay. As thry not trying to trick anyone.
But ya those who took bans on own should try to get their old I'd and can change username once allowed. Or can ask to change via administrators in case can't on on

SB question how did you get to have your old one back I thought a take a year to change username.
