The Supreme Court has requested a response from Karisma Kapoor regarding Priya Sachdev Kapur's plea for a certified copy of their divorce settlement. Mandhira Kapur Smith, sister of the late Sunjay Kapur, has weighed in on the matter. She stated that Priya's actions seem aimed at diverting attention from ongoing issues. This development follows Priya's request for the legal document.

Mandhira reacts to Priya’s fresh plea

Speaking to news agency ANI, Mandhira said, It's trying to divert what is going on. Firstly, if my brother wanted to share this with her, he would have shared it with her while they were married. So, I don't understand why she is trying to play all this when she has already showed this in court. So yes it is to divert from what is going on in reality.

She went on to add, I think a divorce is confidential. They (Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur) have children together. It's not like it's a divorce without children. I don't think it's anybody's business, except for the two people who are involved in it. It is none of her business.

What exactly Priya has petitioned for?

Priya has petitioned the Supreme Court, requesting certified copies of all documents from Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur's 2016 divorce case. Her aim is to scrutinize the financial settlements and child custody arrangements agreed upon by the former couple.

About the legal dispute

Following Sunjay Kapur's passing, Priya, now a legal heir, seeks access to divorce records. She claims these documents are crucial for the ongoing succession matter in the Delhi High Court. The backdrop includes Karisma's initial allegations of domestic abuse and substance abuse against Sunjay during their divorce proceedings. This led to a contentious legal battle. In 2016, the couple reached a mutual consent divorce, with Karisma withdrawing the domestic violence case. Subsequently, the Supreme Court dismissed the dowry case filed by Karisma, based on her consent. This legal history now impacts the estate's handling.

The legal dispute over Sunjay Kapur's estate involves Karisma's children, Samaira and Kiaan, and Priya, Sunjay's widow. The children contest Priya's will, alleging it's fake and designed to disinherit them. Accusations have flown between both parties in court. Sunjay, former chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away in London. He was married to Karisma from 2003 to 2016, with two children, and later married Priya in 2017, with one son.
