Their Child
Khushi left the doctor's office with a smile on her face. She still could not believe it. A year ago she would never have believed she could be this happy. And now it felt like the whole world's happiness was within her grasp. She would share her secret with Arnav ji tomorrow since it was their wedding anniversary. Double surprise. She was throwing a party for their anniversary but now there was all the more reason to celebrate.
She couldn't wait until Arnav ji got back. He had gone to Scotland for a meeting, he was supposed to come back a few days ago, but even after a year of marriage Arnav ji was still Arnav ji. His work always kept him busy...my workaholic husband, Khushi thought with a smile on her face. Sure she missed him when he went off to his trips, but she knew his work was important to him. And plus she knew that he missed her just as much as she missed him when he went away. But this time she had gotten angry at him since he had been away for 2 weeks. He had never been away for that long. He knew she couldn't live without him for 2 hours, let alone 2 weeks. And then he had had the audacity to call her and tell her he had extended his stay. She had gotten so angry at him because she thought he would miss their anniversary.
"Don't you care about me Arnav ji. How could you do this to me? Do you have any idea how much I am missing you right now," she had told him when they had last spoken.
"I know Khushi. You don't think I am missing you. But what can I do. This deal is really important for our company. I want to come back home. Please believe that. You believe me right," he had sounded unsure.
"Of course I do arnav ji. But I need you right now. Do you have any idea, I haven't been feeling well lately. I have been throwing up all the time and I have been feeling so tired," Khushi hoped this would persuade him to come back. For some reason she was missing him more than she had ever missed him.
"Khushi have you asked the doctor. Forget it, I already know the answer. Go to the doctor right now, Khushi...as soon as you hang up the phone. Do you hear me?" he said in a demanding tone. Somethings would never change...her husband is still as demanding as ever.
"Fine, I will go right now. So are you coming back. Our anniversary is coming up too," she had asked with an unsteady voice. A year of marriage and she still felt unsure. Perhaps she would never completely know her husband.
"Yes Khushi. I will try to wrap up the work here and be home in a few days. But Khushi promise me you will take care of yourself. I wouldn't be able to," he paused for a while as if unsure whether he wanted to finish that thought, "forgive myself if anything ever happened to you," he finished. How could she stay angry at him after that...how could she stay angry at him after the news she had just gotten.
Khushi was jerked out of her thoughts when her phone ringed and her smile widened. It was arnav ji. At this rate the smile would be etched on her face. "Khushi what did the doctor say. It's nothing serious, right. How are you feeling now? Did he prescribe you any medication?" he asked in one breath. "Arnav ji, so many questions. Slow down. Take a breath in between," Khushi sad laughingly. "Don't worry arnav ji, everything is fine," Khushi assured him. She couldn't tell him this news over the phone. She wanted to see the expression on his face when she told him.
"Thank god. I was so worried," he sighed a breath of relief. "I could tell. Anyways I will talk to you later arnav ji, I have some work to do," she lied to him. She knew if she spoke to him any longer than she would not be able to hold her tongue. "Okay, bye Khushi. I will be home soon," he reassured her. And every single minute would be excruciating for her until he got back.
Arnav had wrapped up his work as soon as he could and he had caught the next fight home. He had wanted to surprise her. It was 12 at night when Arnav's flight had landed and he had gotten home as fast as he could. Everyone was sleeping at this hour and Arnav couldn't have been happier about that because right now the only person he wanted to see was Khushi. Arnav ran up the stairs and entered their bedroom. Khushi was sleeping. He slowly got on the bed without making a sound. He then kissed her neck and whispered in her ear, "Khushi." She tossed, but she didn't wake up. He kissed her cheek then, and whispered in her other ear, "wake up love."
"Hmmm...," she said. Then she slowly opened her eyes. "You're back," she said with the sweetest smile on her face. "I missed you," she said.
"How much," he said with a glint in his eyes. She knew what that glint and the husky voice meant. He kissed her behind her ears and Khushi moaned; he knew that was her weak spot. She always moaned when he did that. He undressed her slowly. God he had missed her.
He spent the rest of the night showing her just how much he had missed her.
Khushi woke up in the morning with a smile on her face. She had been smiling a lot recently, but then again she had never been this happy before. Then she blushed as she thought of all the things Arnav ji had done to her last night. She turned to see that Arnav ji was still sleeping. He had a scratch mark on his jawline and Khushi cheeks burned when she remembered she had done that last night. She had become so depraved.
A few minutes later when her cheeks had stopped burning, Khushi decided to wake him up in his style. She shyly kissed his jawline where she had scratched him. And then she whispered in his ear, "Arnav ji." He said "hmmm" just like she had said last night.
"Khushi," he said opening his eyes. "It's nice waking up like this." He went to kiss her on her cheek but she shot up off the bed placing her hand on her mouth. She was going to throw up. She ran to the bathroom and shut the door.
"Khushi, what happened? Are you okay?" he asked while pounding on the door. "Open this door Khuhsi or I will break it," he sounded really anxious. She then rinsed her mouth and opened the door.
"Khushi what's wrong. I thought you said you were fine," he sounded really worried.
She got a big smile on her face and then she said the words that would change his life forever, "I'm pregnant."
