Okay, well now to the phone call. Shyam mysteriously disappearing just before Arnav's phone call. This could be because he is linked to it but I think it could be a decoy. The real kidnapper could very easily be someone else. Shyam conveniently appearing/disappearing at the right times doesn't necessarily mean that he's behind it. I think Shyam may be working with someone else though. I have a feeling this is something to do with Arnav's past... I could easily be wrong.
Anyway, the phone call. First, he assured his Di that everything was fine. Then he spoke to everyone, you could tell that he enjoyed mindless conversation with them because he missed it so much. Then came Aakash. Aakash, I'm sure, knows something is up. He was very suspicious when he found out about Arnav's disappearance and you can tell he doesn't believe what Arnav says about Scotland. Maybe Aakash is going to help Khushi save Arnav?
During his conversation with Aakash, he told him to take care of Di & then Khushi. He sounded pained when he said Khushi's name, regretful. But he doesn't want to talk to her. When Aakash gives Khushi the phone Arnav doesn't want to talk to her. He knows he can deceive everyone else, but not Khushi - he's scared that he won't be able to hide behind that strong ASR exterior because Khushi will know something is wrong. Just the sound of her name escaping his lips brings Khushi to tears, clinging onto the phone for dear life. Arnav tries to assure her that he's okay, nothing's the matter. He even tries to go all ASR on her and try to stop her crying, but he does so half-heartedly. He closes his eyes, regretting the fact that fate always played against them and they can't be together. But he doesn't want to die & have Khushi thinking that he hated her. He doesn't want Khushi to have that burden on her shoulders for the rest of her life. So he told her what he wanted to say and what she wanted to hear that night on the terrace. Khushi shouldve been happy, but she knows something is wrong. She knows that under the circumstances he had left her in he would not confess so easily.
But Arnav wanted to relieve her of her burden. Those 3 words were his way of saying that regardless of whether she loves Shyam or not, he still loves her and he always will. Then, him being held at gunpoint in the precap... He wanted to confess his love to her before he died. I can't help thinking of Heer-Ranjha there.
I know Arnav won't die, but this was my take on the phone call. What do you guys think?
