Jannat 2 Movie Review

Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt seem to love Emran Hashmi, and for good reason. Pretty much every movie I've seen with the Bhatt brothers and Emran combo has been really gripping. Jannat (2008) is one of my favorite movies. I get goosebumps every time I see it and never fail to cry at the end. Jannat 2 was along the same lines in terms of basic story line. Our hero is involved in some illegal business and becomes rich because of it. He succeeds in that business and works with the biggest dons in that field. He also has a loyal best friend cum right hand man. He then falls in love with a girl who is against this illegal stuff and tries to change himself to be with her. There is some senior cop who tries to force him to be a better person and is one of the few people who believes in him. And the story goes on from there.

Emran Hashmi's character, Sonu Dilli KKC, sells guns illegally, and makes a ton of money from that. The KKC in his name stands for Kutti Kameeni Cheez, and that's how he classifies himself. Now Emran is a really talented and fine actor and always takes on roles perfectly. Unfortunately he didn't live up to the bar he has set for himself, but he was still very good. Randeep Hooda played a cop who lost his wife due to illegal weapons smuggling, which of course happens to be Sonu Dilli's profession. Randeep is yet another skilled actor and on point with his amazing performance in this movie. He was the highlight for sure. Esha Gupta was probably the weakest link. That may not be saying much since everyone else is so good, but she was lacking expressions in a lot of parts. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as Sonu Dilli's best friend did a good job and Manish Chaudhary as the villain was also really good.

The film itself was kind of choppy and didn't fit together as well as it could have. The love story didn't blend too well with the action. The language is pretty vulgar, but I guess with the type of movie this is, that's acceptable. One area that I felt really lacked was the songs. The soundtrack is nice, but I expect better from an Emran Hashmi movie. Jannatein Kahan is my favorite song from this, and that's not even completely a Jannat 2 song because it's completely reminiscent of Jannat. Tu Hi Mera and Tera Deedar Hua are nice too, but every song (except Jannatein Kahan) lacks the magic that Jannat songs had. Every single Jannat song was phenomenal, and the Jannat 2 soundtrack doesn't even come close.

There is no doubt that Jannat was much better than Jannat 2. Regardless, I still enjoyed the movie. Like I said, the Mukesh bhais and Emran always seem to do something awesome, and this was no exception. Possibly my favorite part of the movie was the end. I'm trying to avoid spoilers when I say this, but the way Emran's character ended the movie was the best thing his character did in the entire movie. It was such a powerful act and worked so well with what Randeep had been saying the whole time.
