Quasimodo:
So many times out here
I've watched a happy pair
Of lovers walking in the night
They had a kind of glow around them
It almost looked like heaven's light
I knew I'd never know
That warm and loving glow
Though I might wish with all my might
No face as hideous as my face
Was ever meant for heaven's light
But suddenly an angel has smiled at me
And kissed my cheek without a trace of fright
I dare to dream that she
Might even care for me
And as I ring these bells tonight
My cold dark tower seems so bright
I swear it must be heaven's light
Priests:
Confiteor Deo Omnipotenti (I confess to God almighty)
Beatae Mariae semper Virgini (To blessed Mary ever Virgin)
Beato Michaeli archangelo (To the blessed archangel Michael)
Sanctis apostolis omnibus sanctis (To the holy apostles, to all the saints)
Frollo:
Beata Maria
You know I am a righteous man
Of my virtue I am justly proud
Priests:
Et tibit Pater (And to you, Father)
Frollo:
Beata Maria
You know I'm so much purer than
The common, vulgar, weak, licentious crowd
Priests:
Quia peccavi nimis (That I have sinned)
Frollo:
Then tell me, Maria
Why I see her dancing there
Why her smold'ring eyes still scorch my soul
Priests:
Cogitatione (In thought)
Frollo:
I feel her, I see her
The sun caught in raven hair
Is blazing in me out of all control
Priests:
Verbo et opere (In word and deed)
Frollo:
Like fire
Hellfire
This fire in my skin
This burning
Desire
Is turning me to sin
It's not my fault
Priests:
Mea culpa (Through my fault)
Frollo:
I'm not to blame
Priests:
Mea culpa (Through my fault)
Frollo:
It is the gypsy girl
The witch who sent this flame
Priests:
Mea maxima culpa (Through my most griveous fault)
Frollo:
It's not my fault
Priests:
Mea culpa (Through my fault)
Frollo:
If in God's plan
Priests:
Mea culpa (Through my fault)
Frollo:
He made the devil so much
Stronger than a man
Priests:
Mea maxima culpa (Through my most griveous fault)
Frollo:
Protect me, Maria
Don't let this siren cast her spell
Don't let her fire sear my flesh and bone
Destroy Esmeralda
And let her taste the fires of hell
Or else let her be mine and mine alone
Guard:
Minister Frollo, the gypsy has escaped
Frollo:
What?
Guard:
No longer in the cathedral. She's gone
Frollo:
But how? Never mind. Get out, you idiot
I'll find her. I'll find her if I have to burn down all of Paris
Hellfire
Dark fire
Now gypsy, it's your turn
Choose me or
Your pyre
Be mine or you will burn
Priests:
Kyrie Eleison (Lord have mercy)
Frollo:
God have mercy on her
Priests:
Kyrie Eleison (Lord have mercy)
Frollo:
God have mercy on me
Priests:
Kyrie Eleison (Lord have mercy)
Frollo:
But she will be mine
Or she will burn!
Shyam Manohar Jha. A man as dark as his name. The snake is becoming bold. He is beginning to take liberties and is beginning to play with fire. Fire is the source of life. It gives heat and provides light in the darkness. But when meddled with, it turns everything to ashes, showing no mercy, the most unyielding. He is sparking the lost fire within Khushi. And he will burn for attempting to control it.
A wrote on yesterday's Redux about Cardinal sins and virtues regarding Arnav and Khushi, and today I shall continue with it.
The Seven Deadly Sins are Pride, Wrath, Envy, Greed, Lust, Sloth and Gluttony.
The Seven Heavenly Virtues are: Humility, Patience, Kindness, Charity, Chastity, Diligence and Temperance.
Ironic isn't it? How Shyam embodies all the Sins, while Anjali most of the Virtues (she ain't chaste with her gutter mind)?
Source: Wikipedia
Pride: The original sin and it is considered to be the most dangerous as it is thought to be the cause of all the others. It is the desire to be the most important or attractive to others. It is the excessive love of oneself and in Shyam's case, it can also be referred to as Vanity. Vanity is unjustified boasting and overconfidence. Dante's definition was "love of self perverted to hatred and contempt for one's neighbour."
Wrath: It is also known as rage and it may be described as inordinate and uncontrolled feelings of hatred and anger. Wrath in its purest form presents with self-destructiveness, violence, and hate that may provoke feuds that can go on for centuries. Wrath may persist long after the person who did another a grievous wrong is dead. Feelings of anger can manifest in different ways, including impatience, revenge, and vigilantism. Dante described vengeance as "love of justice perverted to revenge and spite".
Envy: It is characterized by an insatiable desire the sin of envy not only resent that another person has something they perceive themselves as lacking, but also wish the other person to be deprived of it. Dante defined this as "a desire to deprive other men of theirs."
Greed: It is a very excessive or rapacious desire and pursuit of wealth, status, and power. It can lead to disloyalty, deliberate betrayal, or treason, especially for personal gain, for example through bribery. Scavenging and hoarding of materials or objects, theft and robbery, especially by means of violence, trickery, or manipulation of authority are all actions that may be inspired by greed. It is also an inordinate desire to acquire or possess more than one needs, especially with respect to material wealth
Lust: It is usually thought of as excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual nature. (I don't want to elaborate on this as the episode had left no stone unturned and my explanations could never match Abhaas's sneer.)
Sloth: This is laziness it can indicate a wasting due to lack of use, concerning a person, place, thing, skill, or intangible ideal that would require maintenance, refinement, or support to continue to exist.
Gluttony: It is the over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste.
Now back to Shyam. He is evil personified. He openly expresses all of these sins and is shameless in the way he flaunts it. He is proud and vain of his limited skills. He is greedy and wants Arnav's money and his wife. He is envious of Arnav as Arnav possesses everything he wants and desires. He is consumed by wrath whenever things do not go in his way and is vengeful. He lusts after Khushi and is making advances towards her more openly. He is lazy and does not like working. He likes to live a life that is not his own and is over-indulging himself.
The song posted is from Disney's "Hunchback of Notre Dame". I have not read the original and will draw parallels from Disney's version.
Judge Claude Frollo was a vicious man of God. He too embodied all that he sought to vanquish. He lusted for Esmeralda and blamed her for enticing him. He hounded after her and was ready to destroy everything for her. When he realised he couldn't have her, he chose to decide to kill her.
Now, who does Frollo resemble in IPKKND: Arnav Singh Raizada or Shyam Manohar Jha? It is Shyam. Shyam was enticed by her and he lusted after her. He put everything at risk for her because he knew he would succeed. He would stop at nothing to get her. There will come a time when he will realise he will never get her and in that moment, he will chose to finish her off. Why?
Let her taste the fires of hell
Or else let her be mine and mine alone
He will think in these context and he will have no regrets. But he will not succeed. Because Quasimodo, Khushi's Arnav will save her.
Quasimodo was a gypsy reluctantly cared for by Frollo. He grew up sheltered because of his monstrous appearance. But he had a heart of gold and in the end, he was the only one who had been able to defend Esmeralda and initiated the uprising against Frollo.
Arnav Singh Raizada was the appearance of a monster. He is ruthless, cruel and demonic. That is his image. That is the illusion he created and that is how he is judged, much like Quasimodo. However, like Quasimodo, he had a heart of gold. He protects those he loves fiercely and can single-handedly fight the war. He has always longed for love. Whether he admits it or not, he had always admired Anjali and Shyam's relationship and wanted something similar for himself. But he gave up hope and he thought it to be futile.
But enter Khushi. A girl who fought the monster and nurtured the angel. She gave him hope, something he dared not do and exposed him to colours. She became his life. She was everything to him.
So many times out here
I've watched a happy pair
Of lovers walking in the night
They had a kind of glow around them
It almost looked like heaven's light
I knew I'd never know
That warm and loving glow
Though I might wish with all my might
No face as hideous as my face
Was ever meant for heaven's light

He wanted to taste the fruit he had so long denied himself, and just when he was about to, it was snatched from him and he threw the remainder away, in fear, envy, anger and pride. Can we blame him? No we cannot. But we cannot justify his actions. He is Quasimodo, a gentle creature perceived to be a monster who just wants love.
Arnav had erred terribly and his path is long and arduous. In his folly, he had left Khushi defenceless and he will be barely arrive in time to snatch Khushi from the jaws of Hades. We are beginning to see just how far Shyam can go.
Shyam is the eternal opportunist and has always pounced on the ball. He is growing jealous of Arnav's impact on Khushi and his main purpose is to distract Khushi from Arnav's thoughts, if she is angry at him, then so be it. It is still attention from her part. He is lusting for her and he is openly expressing it. (his orgasmic expression was downright f_____ creepy! I seriously had bile in my mouth! Kudos to Abhaas!)
The opportunities are always provided by Anjali, and they are equally crushed by her. Anjali is the queen, in every sense. His actions are always coordinated by her presence and as long as she is there, he will never succeed. Even if he is a hair's space away, he will be yanked away from his goal.
Anjali is his opposite, yet never his equal. She is far above them all. Everyone's lives are in Anjali's control and everyone knows it. But, she is slowly relinquishing her hold. She is giving Khushi her rights as Arnav's wife completely and she is willing stepping down as the most important person in Arnav's life. She has and will always be the bridge between Arnav and Khushi and she is their mirror. She will bring them together and will honour their sacrifice forever more.
Khushi is growing anxious by the second. She is sick with worry and her breakdowns are becoming more frequent and potent. She is on the verge of losing herself completely. She already has, if one were to be very cynical. The only thing that is keeping her going is her incredibly durable love for Arnav. His memory and love is what is keeping her sane. She is cautious and on edge.
Shyam's attempts to distract her are failing miserably. He is trying to divert her attention from Arnav, but he is only making her realise Arnav's saving grace. He is showing her that the beast in Arnav is nothing compared to the devil within Shyam. He is simply pushing her towards Arnav and is losing foot in the war, even if he is winning the battles. His complacency and over-confident will be his downfall and I will laugh my heart out when he finally disintegrates into nothingness.
Arnav will fight him with Khushi by his side and they will win. But it will be Anjali who will deal the final blow. That is certain.
Now here is a riddle to guess if you can
Sing the bells of Notre Dame
Who is the monster and who is the man?
Who indeed? Who indeed is the monster and who indeed is the man? Only time will tell.
Thanks!
