Caught the repeat telecast of second episode of Satyameva Jayate but missed the last 30 minutes due to stupid power cut. Great episode! Child sexual abuse is such a sensitive topic but was presented in a very nice way. No sensationalism or judgement, just pure facts. I already knew that this happened mostly at home and boys were not untouched by it, but it was shocking to see that 53% of kids were affected. And still no law against it in India? Are we still in stone age?

The stories of the victims were just sad. People can be worse than animals. And that's why I say, just being elder doesn't earn you respect automatically. And reaction of parents was just ridiculous. I mean bleeding due to eating mango? W*F? A child is being abused and he turns to parents for help and they refuse to believe him. A child that young doesn't even have the words to express the abuse and even feels ashamed and hesitant. And when he builds up the courage, parents let them down. This is due to the taboo nature that our society has created around the topic of sex. We know that not talking and not doing anything about it will not solve the problem, but then also we just watch.

So, stop being such a wuss and talk to kids about sex. Build a level of comfort and trust so that the kid can tell you anything. And believe him! And be alert about silent signals too. And tell kids that this can happen to them too, and how to protect themselves. World ain't a fairyland and there are bad people who do bad things. The sooner the kids learn this, the better off they will be.

Nice post well written. Yes kids should be given the workshops regarding child abuse not only in house but in school too.Prevention is better than cure.

i feel like there needs to also be a program to teach people to be parents also...for some reason children are being brought in to the world with out ever teaching those parents how to really care for them...its not just have children because you have to fulfill some society requirement...as if they were accessories...

Yeah, parents need to fulfil their responsibilities. Instead of just academics, teach your child something practical also. And treat child as a friend, not some commodity.

Nice post...I agree with you...the worst thing that could happen to a kid is when he/she turns to oarents for help and gets disappointed...I was aghast when I got k ow that we have no law against child sex abuse...such a sorry state of affairs..
