I really feel that anandi's outfit is inappropriate.
Yes she is receiving an award and therefore has to look nice etc... but to have such jewellery and heavy dangling earrings as if she is going for a wedding or the bride herself... seemed inappropriate.
Yes, she has to dress well and look nice, I am not saying she has to be everyday ordinary,
but this is ridiculous.
If someone is getting an award at an office or something, do we wear such heavy jewellery and make up and go?

she is from a village and from rajasthan.

Rajasthan , the women there are known for their dressing and heavy jewelry. She represents the culture of rajasthan so I think its very appropriate.

No suchi... it is still not appropriate. (I feel - I know others may feel differently).
There are so many social activists who get awards -- they all go in whatever they usually dress.
anyway, the crux of the matter is that she is not going there as female of rajasthan to enhance or display her feminine side. I feel (yes only me) she should retain her image of a business-like woman, instead of a dolled up bride.

well tinoo.. I agree social activists are simple. Like Anandi's teacher ji.
But see that is NOT the point here.

The point is, she is doing what ever she is doing cause its a great honor for her family and its a request made by all the villagers.
She did not say no.

And I am glad she didn't ... cause if she did then people will accuse of being 'more mahan'

lol
baat suno tho mushkil na suno tho mushkil

regardless, she agreed and she is going to meet her 'would be hehehe' so its appropriate : ) : ) : )

šŸ˜†šŸ˜† Tinoo...I couldn't agree more šŸ˜†šŸ˜† For god's sake she is getting an award from chief minister...if not anything dress simple and nice rather than looking like a chamak challo jewelry ki dukaan with heavy jhoom bara bar jhoom lehenga as if its her wedding reception...CV's bhi našŸ˜•

Frankly it would have been good if DS had suggested her to wear a nice salwaar kameez or saree...much more appropriate for a ceremony of such stature...(thats what I feel)

Suchi,
my friend is a lawyer. She was invited for an award for some social legal work she has done.
This was an international award.
As part of the celebrations they had an Indian celebration where the organizers also asked her if she would show-case Indian culture -- and asked her if she would participate as aishwarya rai's role and dance on stage to 'Kajra re'.
My friend declined because she said "mujhe naachne wali ka image nahin chahiye"... She wants to be seen as a competent professional only.
I dont know what you are saying that the village people asked anandi to dress like that ... nobody asked her to dress like that.
Have you seen japanese people receive an award? They dont come dressed in a kimono or slippers to an award function to showcase their country or culture. Always dressed in business suit attire.
I am not saying that anandi should not dress in her village attire -- but my god -- all that pasty make up and heavy jewellery will give people a completely wrong image of sarpanch bitiya.
The dress has to fit the occassion. If she were in a "flavours of india" beauty competition - sure! by all means wear all that jewellery and heavy makeup. But she is not going there as brand ambassador of rajasthan tourism. She is going as a competent sarpanch.

Anandi is a sarpanch of a village and to add to that - she represents the daughter/(beendni) of a very well to do family of the area. People who wear heavy sets on a regular basis - and gold edging on their clothes everyday.

So when they decide to deck out in their finery - ofcourse it will be dazzling and OTT. But the entire village will also turn out in their "sunday best" as the expression goes.

She is not going to some international convention - she is receiving an award in front of her own village and people might feel let down if she goes ultra simply. In the city we may think dressing up is so "eeks !" and subtle-ity is more sought after but then again - we shud not judge only by city standards and that too - international city standards.

Exactly well said Hooked. I mean look at at the way Sumitra is dressed and how Gehna is dressed.

They dress up , as how usually people dress in wedding ( not even really)
so imagine how 'better' Anandi should look just to beat the 'Normal' women's clothing there.

If you look at Anandi , she does not have more makeup. She has exactly the same amount of make up she wears every day ( a bit very very slight bit more). The only thing is her jewelry is more and her clothing is a bit more grand.
