All regressive soaps on north-west Indian families

I think all the TV serials like Balika Vadhu, Na Aana is desh meri lado, Sathi sath nibhana, Uttran, Kairi - rishta khatta mitha, sasural simar ka , yeh rishta kya kehlata hai, Dulha banunga ghodi chadhunga, yahaan mein ghar ghar kheli and other past serials like kahani ghar ghar ki, kyuki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi, etc etc etc are on North or West Indian background.

I mean, the families shown in such TV serials are either rajasthani family, gujarati family, punjabi family or family from UP, MP or Bihar. Why no soaps is made based on south indian background or east indian background showing south indian family or family from Assam, Nagaland etc. Is it because south and east Indians are not regressive like North and west Indians?

And why they make soaps on stupid joint families with evil sasumas, why not they make soaps on couple of nuclear families or soaps like "banegi apni baat" airing years ago or Remix or Hip Hip Hurrey or "Rishta" & "Aap ki Antra" of Zee TV .

I am sick of such regressive soaps which is taking India 100 years back. I don't have problem with happy joint family, but the kind of depiction they are showing in this serials, like mother-in-law has the right to dominate and dictate everything and even has right to punish the daughter-in-law and son just has to stand like puppet, that irritates me the most. My ex-mother-in-law was harassing me after watching such regressive shows and expecting me to behave like ideal d-i-l shown in TV serials who keep mouth shuts and sacrifice everything and wear saree, cover head with pallu etc.

but no soaps have been made on south indian family, I guess south indian families are modern compared to north and west and maybe they can't be depicted in a regressive manner as they depict the families of north and west India. Afterall the soap makers only wants to show typical saas-bahu regressive shows. I hate those regressive shows except balika vadhu which is my favourite, because it gives the social message, but yeh rishta kya kehlata hai, sathi saath nibhana, etc. are worst. I don't watch them, but my ex-mil was watching it so I had to see it but I used to got sick of that. If in my hands I would ban those shows & make all the makers to make serials like "banegi apni baat". Ain't you miss that show & others like Remix, hip-hip hurrey, yeh dillagai, Tara, Hasratein, Buniyad, Rishta-the short stories, Aap ki Antara etc?

Why show makers are not making serials on modern or working women. Banegi apni baat was aired in 1993, still it was success, imagine how much modern it was for that time. Ain't at that time housewives watching it.? Why the showmakers has a notion that housewives only want to watch saas-bahu regressive drama. And other great shows like buniyad, hasratein, tara, etc. Why the level of Indian Telivision is falling down day by day

language aur bolne ke tareeke mein problem ki wajah se bhi south indian serial nahi bun paate honge pur sun tv channel mein south indian serial ki bharmaar hai.to btw tumhe jassi jaisi koi nahi rajni jaise serial ka intezaar hai .mujhe dd mein rajni serial bahut accha lagta tha .waise afsar bitiya bhi dekha jaa sakta hai

No saurabh, I don't know about rajni, and I don't like afsar bitiya as well. Because in that too, they are showing girl from poor family who wants to become afsar, big deal. The way the serial is shown is too slow and boring. Actually the thing is that the level of Indian television is falling day by day. And this serials are boring and damn slow, if some incidents happens they will show everyone's faces with horrible music for an hour. I want serial like Banegi Apni Baat, in which story of urban young men and women were shown, wearing western outfits and leading modern life. There should be some glamour touch. And all that serials aired in early and mid 90s really had that glamour touch.

However Balika vadhu is interesting with social message so I liked it, but yeh risht kya kehlata hai etc is horrible. Uttran was good, but I don't understand that why the new generation like mukta, surbhi and icchha's daughter are wearing such old fashioned clothes. Don't you remember the serials in 90s I mentioned above, look at thier dressing and look at dressing of the actors of current soaps. Even the dressing is becoming more and more regressive. I wish if any showmaker can air any serial in which daughter-in-law wear jeans and mother-in-law too wear western outfit. This regressive serials are doing no good and giving negative inspiration to already regressive public of India.

i totaly agree to ur post.

and im sad that the impact these kind of serials are having is terrible.

i hate yeh rishta the most.

akshara's charcter is so unreal and pray which woman wants to wear a seedha palla saree nowadays ... even while sleeping.

once she got hell from everyone for wearing a salwar suit.

i was bit hurt when u said north indian families r regressive.

PS not all of them r liek that/ infact families of our parents were all nuclear so were my grandparents. joitn amily system was so alien concept for me.

but effect of these serials !!!!! my mother in law stayed separate but today she cries for joint family. why? when u had ur freedom why u dotn want that for ur ahu.

becuase aloha ... indian telly is busy glorifying JOITN FAMILY with all its VICES.

im yet to see any virtue anywhere ... and worst is pratigya . a murdering FIL is still respected by pratigya!

this is teh star plus' naya soch ki if ur an elder u can plot to murder ur bahu by burying her alive in a coffin ... not only u sit comfortably after that in ur own home u also get respect n sympathy frm all quarters. such loose serials , such loose morals.

While the world moved forward with the onset of the 21st century in year 2000, Indian television went back in time and made regressive thinking serials. Or are we Indians, being part of the third world can't outgrow the thought that women are lesser mortals when compared to men.

A lot of people get kicks out of breaking down institutions. This vandal mentality is what makes these guys demonize joint families when just like nuclear families - they too have their + n - points.

Joint families also teach the kids to share n share alike and the seniors to love kids alike and the resources to get divided equally - be it sweets or funds. The kids are never lonely and if someone is not feeling well - the others can always be relied on to pitch in. Unlike a nuclear family - where there is so much independance that people can actually feel very lonely n depressed and crave for vacations to go meet family.

BV shows a very nice model IMO. There's always a senior to consult if u need advice. There's always lots of people to talk to if u feel the need to talk. U can share work, encourage each other, joke around. Anandi has had Nandu to play with and pamper all this time. Imagine how lonesome she wud be if she was living all by herself and also deserted by her hubby?

But TV serials do this coz they can't be bothered to get crative, they take what they see, and find cracks in them and exploit the meanness and further the pettiness and give ideas to millions of others watching it. It seems it is too much effort to make n show seriously positively stuff like the earlier serials on TV like Udaan, Rajni and just funny stuff like Zindagi - ye jo hai Zindagi.
