Actor Abhay Deol is a bundle of nerves as he settles down for a chat. He is looking forward to the release of his next film, Dibakar Banerjee's Shanghai.
In his own words, Abhay describes the film as his most difficult film till date. So is he nervous about the outcome? "I am nervous yes, but it is all positive. The expectations are higher, but then you want people to look forward to your films. I, like others, expect a lot out of myself," he says adding, "I have seen the rough cut of the film and I am very proud of it. This has to be my most difficult film because the character's background was completely different from other films. Playing a part is not so difficult as much as adjusting to the background. My character in the film is a South Indian and the upbringing and language, everything about the character was alien to me. Films are not so much about acting as they are about discovering, and I thoroughly enjoyed working on this one," says the actor.
While Abhay has been known for his off-beat choices when it comes to films, he also has a steady fan following — mostly females. It is mostly his dimples that work like a charm, ask him that and he lets out a laugh. "I don't know what works with women. I guess, it is one of those questions you should ask the ladies," he says.
It has been seven years in the industry, yet Abhay says he hasn't changed one bit. "I am exactly as I was seven years back. The only thing that is changed probably is that I am now going out and talking about my films. I have had films in the past that weren't marketed well and became huge hits on DVD. That got me irritated so now, since I have the backing to go all out and talk, I am making myself available."
In between all this, there is also talk of Abhay burying the hatchet with actress Sonam Kapoor as they have been offered a film together.
Clearing the air, Abhay says, "There was really no hatchet to bury. The entire thing just got blown out of proportion though I still stand by what I said. I don't hold grudges at all and just like I have an opinion, everyone can agree to disagree with me as well. Working with Sonam was great. She is a very sweet, hardworking girl and since work was coming our way, we just decided to go ahead and do our job."
