Industry sources are abuzz with news which suggests that actor Jayasurya has 'let success get to his head.' So much so that he has been known to demand the production to hire only certain technicians over others. In another instance, Jayasurya allegedly left the crew of a film mid-way to finish a couple of scenes in a nearby location for another film he was cast in. As comical as it may sound, our sources say, "The team of one film was setting up camera for a shot that required Jayasurya. When they were ready to shoot, they found that the actor had left the location to finish another 'ready' shot for a film that was being canned close by. He was trying to multi-task and the fact that the two locations were close probably encouraged him to try and do both on the same day. He did come back to deliver the shot at the first location though." Kochi Times quizzed the actor to see if there was any truth in what was being said about him. Here are excerpts…
Is it true that you asked the film unit of one of your recent signings to replace the cameraman?
Who am I to demand a cameraman? It is the director who chooses a cameraman and if it's someone who can't even take such a decision, I wouldn't want to work with him.
We've heard you have been recommending cinematographer Shehnaad Jalal to a lot of your directors.
I have asked for no such thing. If people ask me for my suggestion, I would tell them if a person is good or not. But I don't even know the cinematographer you are talking about.
Is it true that you left the sets of a film you were shooting for just as they were getting ready for the next shot, to attend the shoot of another film at a location closeby?
Nonsense. I almost never work on two projects at the same time. The only time two projects overlapped was when I had three scenes left to shoot for Vadhyar. I was injured during shoot and so I had to find time to complete the same. But I have not shuffled between sets ever.
