Women are Powerful: article

Forewarning: This is not completely a DEK related topic, BUT PLEASE don't stop reading this post because of that. I posted this more for the sake of women empowerment after reading this article and I wished to pass on such strength to the rest of the forum (since a lot of us, at least active members, are women)!😉

I have posted this topic because I felt it important to address after previous topics making negative comments on weight related issues. I know moderators have already requested for us to stop making negative comments, but I think we should understand perhaps more as to why we should not think those things in the first place because as M once said in DEK, our thoughts become our beliefs, our beliefs our actions, our actions become our character, our character becomes our destiny.

I don't think I need to elaborate more on what topics I am referring to because a) I don't want to generate more discussion on that specific topic, but rather b) redirect it to what the actual issue is. Plus it made me VERY sad😭 (read:disappointed) that we as (mostly girls) who are active in the forum were saying such things. I hope that by reading this article, we as women learn to not enable such behavior because we as women are POWERFUL! We have the ability to change such thinking that is occurring right now and we SHOULD change it because if we DON'T, then the ones who will suffer will be only be US (women). 😭 I only hope to inspire others to believe in themselves and their beauty because as a young woman, I know that we ALL have some insecurities, small or large, that we have had to face or are still currently facing because of comments from fellow peers or just private thoughts we have ourselves because we find ourselves lacking in the face of media's perspective (read: onslaught) of what a woman should look like.

I wanted to share this article link about an American actress, Ashley Judd, who slammed the media with a great (read: fantastic, genius) response about her puffy face on television. Here is a short quote from the article:

"This abnormal obsession with women's faces and bodies has become so normal that we...have internalized patriarchy almost seamlessly. We are unable at times to identify ourselves as our own denigrating abusers, or as abusing other girls and women."

P.S.--Please be honest, don't you love a curvy, svelte Madhuri over a size-zero Kareena??? I know I do! 😆

that is so true
whats the point of living life if u have so many restrictions on what you eat so that ur a size-zero
i mean i luv eating- i can't stop that😆
there is a difference between starving and not being able to enjoy food AND exersizing. Women and girls look better with the puffy face-it looks more natural, then the dried up face.

luved ur post once again😊
great job!!!!!!😉

Well when you put it like that ... I do prefer a curvy Madhuri over a size zero Kareena.

Curviness I like, but expressively huskiness I don't like. I don't want anyone getting 'Cholesterol', 'Diabetes', any type of Cardiac Arrhythmias associated with weight. When I criticize someone by their weight... I don't mean that looking FAT IS UGLY.. thats not my intention, my intention is that one should look healthy, feel healthy and BE healthy from within.

Sometimes we look at people who are fuller in appearance and think that they are so healthy/ strong etc while usually they are the ones more prone to a number of diseases.

Therefore, I believe that we should not promote skinny (size zero) appearance, nor we should just be quiet in the pretense that someone's feelings would be hurt if we tell them they are husky and just accept them the way they are... I think there should be moderation/ balance in a person's personaltiy and physique . It should'nt be about being skinny or fat... but it should be about being healthy 😎😎

Secondly, I believe that we should definitely change people's mindsets who think fat is ugly 😡... because this mentality is contagious, and I believe we should start off with someone like Kareena kapoor who in the name of revolutionizing society is making people more prone towards size zero and spreading the notion that 'Fat is Ugly' 🤢. She is a celebrity, a role model for many girls and if she promotes size zero heavily, many other girls would want size zero too and would starve themselves to the point of achieving this goal as most girls don't know how to properly coordinate the intake of food with weight.

And in the line of work that Priyal is: She doesn't get time to exercise to shed off the extra weight and overtime it keeps on piling up and that really concerns me ... I want her to have a happy and healthy lifestyle and want to see her gorging on chocolates for the rest of her life and not be threatened by any diseases 👍🏼👍🏼... and thats the reason its important to make our loved ones understand where we come from/ our POV.

And another reason why I emphasize health is that I live in the US where even children (5) year olds have diabetes... and its heart wrenching to see a kid who cannot eat sweets/ candies/ ice creams 😭...
Don't want that to happen to anyone... but then again it does happen, its one of the harsh realities of life.

So people I'm a huge advocate of 'Prevention is better than cure'😛

COMPLETELY AGREE, my dear!

LOL, I for the most part agree with you everything you did say Mahi, you are absolutely correct, but I have to slightly differ from you on the notion on fixing it by giving suggestions because essentially we can say all we want, but in general I find that it does not help and that all we really can do is be supportive because of, personal experience with my friend as well as my father who has health issues (not being overweight although he was a little bit at one point.)It's not that I don't agree about helping our loved ones. In fact, I think that we can explain to our loved ones, because we have that right, but as far as fans, I don't think we have that right at all because it only comes out as negative when it comes from strangers (doesn't matter HOW well intentioned, it only hurts, believe me, I have seen my best friend suffer😭 at the "friendly suggestions" of others, it only causes regression not progression in a better lifestyle, Once she got away from that, she was finally able to get better and make better choices).

As for Priyal, I have read an article on NPR, that eating chocolates a lot may actually help you lose weight (and NOT just dark chocolate) so I find it doubtful that perhaps chocolates are causing her to gain weight. Here's the article in case you are skeptical😆. i Just about jumped up in joy!!!😆
http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2012/03/26/149407484/does-a-chocolate-habit-help-keep-you-lean

I mean so what if Priyal does not look like a size zero, I think she looks perfectly fine, i mean we have seen her in western attire and in that sari, believe me, same weight. If you see her photographed or in SBS segments it really is not that bad. I think everyone freaked out because of that one white anarkali, but she seemed fine to me the other times. I think Priyal is actually pretty active (she liked to play sports in school), I think if anything she knows what her weight is and as an actress is aware of the fact that she is on TV so I don't think she will ever let it get out of hand if she was at an unhealthy weight or getting there.

Plus like any girl, she is probably VERY aware of her weight. I don't think people need to point that out to her, after all she is only 17 years old, granted she is an actor, but I think we can cut her some slack.

PLUS, I remember reading in an interview long time ago that Priyal is a vegetarian. How healthy do we want this girl to eat??? 😆 Which reminds me of the time that Priyal and Ashish were at that YRKKH party and Priyal was looking to eat mushrooms and cake (who doesn't like cake plus the party was all about cutting cake for 800 episodes), I'm sorry but when I go to a party with catered or homemade food, I'm definitely NOT looking for vegetables! 😆

ANYWAY trying to veer away from the Priyal topic, I don't think we have to be concerned for her, like I said, she is a smart girl and establishing her career as an actress so I don't think we need to be overtly concerned about things such as weight. She looks beautiful to me and am currently loving the way she looks, since it's actually a VERY healthy weight for her. She's probably just someone who when she gains, it may go to her face first before her body, so maybe that's why everyone thinks she has gained a lot, but I really don't think she has 😕

But Mahi, I have to say I REALLY loved this response of yours, I am so glad you agree! I really enjoyed reading your response and really proud to hear that there are women out there in support of a healthy lifestyle and not a size zero lifestyle ( I mean I STILL shudder at Kareena's figure in Tashan, thankfully she has gained some weight so it looks better, BUT my god, her body scared me in that movie). 😲 AGAIN, LOVED your response. YOU are so right, prevention is better than the cure!⭐️

Hain na?? Size zero should never be a goal. God has made us all in different sizes and shapes so how can we expect our bodies to all fit this supposed "universal model" standard size zero. It's RIDICULOUS.

I AGREE!!! Dried up face looks you are in your 40s!!! I mean Priyal's face is full and round, but she is 17! I know plenty of girls who look like that because it's normal to be 17 and have that baby face! I feel like Priyal is just going to be this gorgeous young woman when she is in her mid 20s. She has such beautiful facial features and great skin! I look at her and think she is going to be such a beauty when she gets older! Mashallah! Nazar na lag jaye!

luved ur post once again😊

Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it. It was quite different from the usual but refreshing to write about and share!😃
