Why July 11 was the cutoff date for Karan

Karan Johar had to finish the picturization of the last song
of 'KANK' by July 11th , because some of his lead actors (who
participated in the last schedule at Yash Raj Studios) had to fly
out of India thereafter (some have already). Karan lost out two days
on account of the rains and another day due to one of his actors not
being able to report for shooting during the schedule which began on
1st July.

The filmmaker won't even dream of postponing his release because the
week of 11th August (the date his film is scheduled to hit the
theaters), has a couple of extra public holidays. August 15 is
India's Independence day and the next day (16th) is the big festival
of 'Janamashtmi'.

That being so, it was one hell of a shooting spell for Karan, who
was running a fever due to the tension and stress to complete the
shooting in time.
