Don't like TV shows, watch art films: Rithvik Dhanjani
Ano Patel, TNN | Apr 17, 2012, 12.00AM ISTAfter dabbling in dance, modeling and featuring in a number of television commercials, Rithvik Dhanjani has finally found his feet in the showbiz industry. He admits that it has always been his dream to be in the Entertainmentindustry. "I was never cut out for a desk job," he avers.
Although, he always wanted to be an actor, television was never really the final destination. He says, "I never wanted to do television. But then I was offered the role of Jeh Khurana in Pyaar Kii Yeh Ek Kahaani. Ekta had immense trust in me and it was my responsibility to do justice to the character."
Even though he is just two shows old in the industry, Rithvik feels strongly about the entertainment industry. "All shows that are screened today are over dramatic. But that is what works. These daily soaps are not just a medium of story-telling. Their primary motive is to entertain the audience. People who do not like these shows should watch art movies," he says. Though he feels that the shows are changing with time, still a lot needs to be done. He explains, "The small screen does not allow you to show your natural side. Actors should be more subtle. The loud make-up kills the natural instinct of a human being. I want to be a part of a show which changes the dynamism of Indian television." Referring to the kind of shows aired on English GECs, he adds, "I am waiting for the day when I will be able to come in my pyjamas on the screen and act naturally."
Ask him if he plans to try his luck in Bollywood and he says, "Initially when I entered the industry, I was scared to do films because only few films really work in a year. I figured out that television has a much wider reach. Now I am open to do films now." He adds, "But I am too scared to do a reality show. Why would you want to be seen as getting dumped by a girl on national television just because you've signed a contract? I don't work for money and I won't do reality shows."
