Since its inception, Bollywood has followed one golden rule. They have invariably linked the lead couple especially if the film that is being marketed is an intense love story.
Of course, in many cases the lead couple, especially debutants, have invariably felt drawn to each other, even off-screen. And filmmakers/marketing agents of those films have shamelessly exploited the sentiment to get more eyeballs.

Even as far back as Bobby (1973); the country was buzzing with the Rishi Kapoor-Dimple Kapadia romance. When Love Story (1981) was being marketed, everyone knew Kumar Gaurav and Vijayeta Pandit were a couple.
Says a trade analyst, "The chemistry between a fresh lead couple never fails to raise the curiosity in a film. So it was a ploy used ad nauseam."
Aditya Chopra is changing that. He has instructed the marketing department of Ishaqzaade that he wants no stories linking producer Boney Kapoor's son Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra's cousin Parineeti Chopra.
He has also told them to refrain from even hinting at any 'good friendship' between them to market the film.
Aditya remained unavailable for comment. But a unit hand said, "Even though Arjun and Parineeti are coming in a love story there will be no media buzz linking the two prior to the film's release because Adi has specifically instructed or should we say warned his marketing team against it."
This genuinely comes as a breath of fresh air because the junta has had it up to here with regular link ups of youngsters who are cast together. Like Ranbir Kapoor-Sonam Kapoor (Saawariya); Nargis Fakhri-Ranbir Kapoor (Rockstar); Pratiek-Amy Jackson (Ekk Deewana Tha), Bipasha Basu-Rana Daggubati (Dum Maaro Dum); Anushka Sharma-Ranveer Singh (Band, Baaja, Baaraat); Sonakshi Singh-Ranveer Singh (Lootera) and countless such examples.
What is even more interesting is the fact that Arjun and Parineeti do get along well.
