"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination
and life to everything."

-Plato

For me, singing sad songs often has a way of healing a situation. It gets the hurt out in the open into the light, out of the darkness.
Reba McEntire

If music be the food of love, play on.
William Shakespeare

Agree? what does music mean to you? do you agree that music expresses emotions that cannot be worded?

What genre of music do you prefer and why?

Which one do you prefer more? Old classics (like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Micheal Jackson among many others), or the new age hits like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Eminem, etc? And why?

Some of the old classics:

Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmnvAyxuHs0

New Age Hits:

The type of music we listen to greatly influences our thinking and behaviour too.
But truly music does capture the soul.

Music is something I listen to mostly to keep my mind busy (while doing boring chores like cooking and cleaning) or to be inspired while writing or just for relaxations.

What genre attracts me? Everything except Country or romantic ballads. Not a big fan of Hip-Hop either. What I listen to depends on my mood. One day I can be listening to Queen or Nightwish, another day to traditional music like a 'Jojk' (Yoyk) sung by the Samis in northern Scandinavia or traditiional music from Ireland. Sometimes a Punjabi song can be the most appealing thing in the world and sometimes a pop song by Katy Perry. My curiosity in music from other countries have lead me to discover some prettey interesting artists like Kerli (from Estonia), Kokia (from Japan) and Dereje Degefaw (from Ethiopia). Hopefully I will discover other kind of music because nothing is more boring than to listen to the same kind of music day out and day in.

Yes, I do think music is something HIGH and is highest form of expression..

Music DOES express emotions, things that cannot be worded.
Sometimes, when the music is just beautiful and I become soo overwhelmed, so overwhelmed and my mind just stops, I become lost in the beauty of the song and I cry... cry overwhelmed by the BEAUTY of the song(hope I am not sounding theatrical 😳 ). One such piece that I listened to today morning is

I listen to ALL the genre of music 😃 old, new, classic, country, metallic, rock, pop, bollywood, tollywood, tamil, japanese, arabic...EVERY GENRE and every language as long as it sounds good.
I like both classics and new age hits.

Music is Lady Gaga.
It does need style, expression and emotion. Her dresses do seem outlandish but then art is expression.

Mohammad Rafi is my all time favourite, but recently I have taken to listening Sonu Nigam's remakes of Rafi melodies.
