Why I still support Suraj?

Suraj had enough of a false marriage, defending his wife umpteen times, humiliated by his wife's indirect rejection time and again.

He is a simple undereducated man who does not know how to deal with the complexities and expectations of the educated and cultured lot. He was born and brought up in a house where such niceties never happened. Yet he showed some spunk in supporting Sandhya, covering her up. What did he get in return? His wife saying that she may not love him as a husband ever. Over and above she brought the divorce papers forgetting to destroy them and he saw them.

Sandhya behaves as though sugar does not melt in her mouth. And she is damn cold. With her brother and her husband as well. She is warm only towards Bhabho.

No one asked her to go through all this suffering. There are so many doors open to her. Yet she is clinging determined not to leave under any circumstance.

When a wife tells a grown up man that you are not husband material to me, how does it feel?

Sandhya should not stay if she never intends to make this a real marriage. This household is a misfit for her. She is strong and intelligent enough to make it on her own. She has a scholarship and some money that can see her thru college.

i totally agree with u too. i mean come on, every step of the way, thru every hurdles, against family, his own mom he always supported sandhya, and she does this, and tells him y did u stop me. Come on, he deserves to be a little upset.
i think shes getting wat she deserves. now shell respect him more and maybe will fall in love w/him now bc now she knows how much hes done for her!

Excellent post. very well written. you have put down sooraj's feelings quite clearly. i support him too. even i have had enough of the way she behaves with sooraj. i mean walk out if you do not want to be a wife. no one will stop you, and this time not even sooraj.

Completely agree with your take! Yes, it kills to see Suraj being so cold because it's just so not him, but at the end of the day his actions are completely justifiable! There's only enough a person can take without it becoming entirely too much for him. He has done nothing but give, give and give in this relationship and never expected anything in return, but when it is all thrown back in your face as if it meant nothing, I can't even imagine the pain of something like that!

The guy has loved her from the second he set eyes on her photo, he married her with so many expectations and dreams, but she shattered them all with the very first real conversation they had, yet he showed the utmost class by backing off, holding no grudges he gave her the space she wanted, always having her back, supporting her in a house where everyone was against her. He sacrificed one thing after another for her happiness and never thought about, yet it failed to effect her, yes, she was considerate of him and she respected him, but I have yet to see even the smallest inkling from her that she might be falling for him. Suraj became her pillar in hopes that one day she would come to love him and that their relationship will be complete, and yet she destroyed everything by telling him that she didn't think she would ever be able to accept her as a husband. I was floored when she said that to his face, I couldn't believe that after everything she still consider him worthy, and Suraj still took that in stride! But my question is why did she not take Preeti up on her offer for a divorce, why did she insist in staying in a relationship that she claimed had no future, she isn't emotionally bound to anyone in the family, so why continue to keep breaking Suraj's heart?

I know that everything that Sandhya went through was barbaric, the humiliation and disrespect she faced at the hands of Bhabo was ridiculously uncalled for, and it no doubt shattered her, but if I was in her place, I would have walked out to be honest, she is an independent and intelligent girl, then what is with the insistence to continue making both herself and Suraj miserable? And the divorce paper's were Suraj's undoing, his breaking point, seeing the solid proof in his hands that Sandhya wanted to end the married shattered him and his hopes! I think when it actually hits him that she wants to leave, via that imaginary sequence, his mind takes a complete 180...why should he continue doing everything for her sake, for her happiness when at the end of the day she is just going to leave him without looking back? If his kindness, patience, trust, loyalty and love were not enough so far, if he still isn't good enough for her because of his lack of education, then why should he continue trying? His heart of gold hadn't softened her, so he had nothing to lose by turning against her. In fact it would only help him when she finally decides to ask for a divorce and walk out of his life. If he starts his charade of hating her and having no regard for her, then hopefully his pretend indifference will turn into reality soon, and so her betrayal, in a sense, won't be as painful for him to bear. He is mentally and emotionally preparing himself for her departure so that his hear isn't completely destroyed in the process. Also, I feel like he doesn't want to elongate the torturous waiting process, he knows that Sandhya will be hesitant in approaching about the divorce, so with his change of attitude, he is probably hoping that it will prompt her to just come out with it and tell him of her intentions. He doesn't want to hope anymore, he has been doing that for so long, hoping that one day she will learn to reciprocate his feelings that everything will turn out to be alright between them, and now they he is certain that none of this will happen, he has built up steel walls around his heart and their only purpose is so that he can keep some kind of control on himself. He can't afford to breakdown, and so he is taking whatever precaution he can to prevent that from happening!

I know that this is a soap and so the leads aren't going to be separated, not permanently anyways, but I just hope that they don't butcher Suraj's character in the process. He is really one is a million and I don't want him to lose that goodness that makes him who he is! He is angry and he has every right to be, but I hope for both their sakes that Sandhya finds out about why he is so angry, and then I want to see how she tries to clear his misunderstandings! She needs to fight for his love, it's the least she can do, and hopefully she will realize her own feelings in the process, but this coldness and cruelty needs to simmer a little bit, for my own personal sake!

I agree.. Sooraj is doing absolutely right! Sandhya has just been walking all over him from day 1, and he's a man after alll.. uski bhi self-respect kab tak hurt karti rahegi woh..

There can be nothing worse than a man telling his wife that he has no interest in her! Thumbs up for Sooraj.. Sandhya needs to realise her mistake or else its bye- bye
