Barun Sobti ' The Man Friday
Unassuming, down-to-earth are not terms one uses for stars who have become heart throbs for many ladies but Barun Sobti is just that. Simple, like he says. I saw him sitting infront of the monitor while his colleagues gave their shots. May be he was learning a few things about setting, frame, block and what not while he lounged with his legs up on the back of a sofa sitting in a chair watching the monitor closely with the director Arshad Khan. Nothing star like about that now is there? What's more on his way to the set he called Akshay Dogra and asked if anyone wanted something to eat. Now, that everyone knows about but does one know that when he does not shoot his sequence he takes orders from everyone as to what they want to eat and then goes to the place on his yellow bike to bring the goodies back for everyone. He even asked me if I wanted to eat anything. Daljeet Bhanot had finished for the day, but she stayed back because Barun was bringing food for everyone. So did Sana Khan. He asks Akshay to open his bag to bring the goodies out while he goes to stow his helmet in his room. Akshay had said Barun's dialogue would be, "table number 11, your order of chicken shawarma is delivered". After dishing out everyone's order, the hyper active person that he is, he does not sit down to eat but paces the floor as he bites into is more spicy chicken shawarma. He also had chicken wings from KFC. Now here is one foodie that I enjoyed watching eat, for love of food is something that we rarely see in actors for they have to maintain their physique or figures depending on the gender. Akshay refused to take a sugar coated spoon just for that reason. You think? No, he just wanted a fresh one.
Now, after the food session, he went into his make up room and came out in five minutes.
No exaggeration, five minutes, transformed from vest, tracks and jacket adorning man with ruffled hair to suited Arnav Singh Raizada. Barun Sobti still lurked in the ruffled hair but out came the man who has hearts aflutter of the ladies who ogle at him on screen.
Then, the last vestige of Barun vanished after the first rehearsal of the scene with Akshay Dogra aka Aakash Singh Raizada with some spray of water and finger combing the hair to tame them to be in character. Then came the straight back, the stern look and the picture was complete. Unless, of course if we were to talk about the fumbles when he tried a few times the tongue twisting lines. He even apologized in advance for the future mistakes and warned that there would be with the lines he had. The camaraderie between Akshay and him is to be seen. One talks of chemistry with Sanaya Irani but with Akshay the male bonding is evident. The way they joke, discuss the scene, add inputs and even convince the director to add spice.
You look at him and see a handsome man who looks real and not overwhelming, approachable and nice. When it comes to work he is fun and seriousness mixed; soft spoken yet firm. Is he a man of contradictions? Not really, just facets of a man who is considerate, compassionate and kind.
Arnav Singh Raizada may be an arrogant so and so but Barun Sobti sure is diametrically opposite to him.
