Sudha Chandran (GK of K Street Pali Hill) has just bagged a plum role in Priyadarshan's film, Maala Maal Weekly.
Chandran will play the role of the only healthy and wealthy woman in a village struck by poverty.
Commenting on her first film after the 1999 release Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, Chandran says, "When I got a call from Priyan for the movie, I thought it was a prank call from one of my friends. It took some time for the news to sink in that I was doing a role in his movie. I have always been a huge fan of his films, even before Hera Pheri became a huge hit."
Every TV actor's dream to make it big in movies
Chandran says now that she's well settled doing interesting roles on the small screen, it was time to move on to the big screen.
"I haven't done anything post Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, and always had that itch to see some success in films. It's one wish every TV actor has. It isn't exactly easy for someone from television to make a breakthrough in films," says Chandran.
Ask her if she's excited or nervous about the film and she quickly says, "I'm terrified! But I'm also looking forward to being a part of Priyan's team." The film also stars Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal and Riteish Deshmukh. Chandran says what excited her the most about the project was its genre.
"This movie is an out and out comedy. The situations told to me are really hilarious. Besides that, working with actors like Om Puri is another advantage," she says.
Chandran will also join Rohini Hattangady in her play Kohra in August. Till then, she has her hands full with her daily serials.
